According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the divorce rate in the United States has been steadily declining since the 1980s. In 2019, the divorce rate in the U.S. was 2.9 per 1,000 population, down from a peak of 5.3 in 1981.

In 2019, the states with the highest divorce rates were Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kentucky, while the states with the lowest divorce rates were New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.
