At the dawn of a new presidential administration, the departing administration and its effects upon our nation can finally be placed in perspective. In DIVERSION, a unique satirical examination of political influence, obstruction of justice, and the corruption of power Hamilton Spencer offers insight into the current (novel was written in 1997) administrations political scandal enigmas. Spencer introduces Bob Clifton as a governor of a small southern state with high aspirations of national political power. After experiencing his first and only political failure, Clifton reaches out to the drug cartel, local industrialist, and accepts an offer he cant refuse from the leaders of China. This China Connection deal, where he sells the soul of America for his own gain, catapults him to the national political arena ans guarantees him the position of President of the United States. Despite the growing distress of those close to him, Cliftons success continues. Eventually, however, Clifton goes too far with an ultimate and final diversion; an effort to distract the news media and the public from the impeachment proceedings. He refuses the advice of a long time friend and Senator and tries to convince the American people that Russia has fired nuclear warhead missiles aimed at America. He bypasses military security code measures and with an ad hoc military coup support, releases American missiles toward Russia. Congress must struggle to use its legislative powers to remove Clifton from office and bring down the missiles. Hamilton Spencer became politically motivated when he realized that the Clinton Administration had a grid-lock on the freedom of the American people. He saw a political power struggle between truth, honesty, morals, and ethics verses a deceptive person who exhibits the negative characteristics of lying, deception, and obstructing justice and wished to reduce this vision to writing. He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Business Administration and expresses his philosophy of local community control of education and welfare. He espouses that the Federal Government have gotten Fs on their report cards for decades and now is the time to abolish the Departments of Education and Welfare.
