Beginning of an Important Discussion on the Lives of Adolescent Girls
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
I found this book rather engaging as a discussion on the lives of American girls growing up and using teen literature as a way of making connections to their lives. This book is very good at discussing what the lives of white girls in America might be like and literature to use with them, but I am totally bewildered as to why females who are black, Hispanic or Asian were not included. There is no mention of girls coming from other countries and how they might experience a mixture of their traditional culture and American life. My guess for this omission is that the author had no experience with any young women who were black, Hispanic, etc. In today's America, it would be very sorry to address the female experience from only a white suburban girl's point of view. I just don't understand why the author chose the path she did for writing this book and feel it is a serious flaw.
