I teach French for Home School Students. I have been using this textbooks for my students for one year now. it’s laid out very well. Each lesson leads into the next lesson. It’s based on essential language for all areas of a young students life. I enjoy it and my students enjoy it too. I recommend this book for JR high and high school.
An "excellente" introduction to the French language & culture!

Okay, so maybe my declension of excellent was off...but that's not the point. :) As a second-year student of french, I have grown to appreciate the Discovering French series more and more. The grammar is neither insultingly simplified nor presented in post-graduate linguistic jargon. As the student progresses, he or she discovers that the dialogues are actually interesting. The cultural topics are especially relevant for the middle or high-school student. I'm only 17, but I have studied several foreign languages in school (with some degree of success) including German, Latin, and French. I'm only mentioning this because I"ve discovered that a good textbook can make or break the love of a language that is so important to form when you can only say, "hi! My name is ____. I don't speak (insert language here)." After struggling through Latin For Americans ("Italia in Europa est! Italia non in Asia est...") and snoozing through Deutsch Aktuell, I have decided that my favorite textbook has been Discovering French. THe stories progress and the same familiar characters greet you at the beginning of every new chapter...even if you're hit in the face with some scary grammatical concept. Even in America, where foreign language education is pathetic at best, a student with even a marginal degree of motivation and ability can succeed with this engaging, colorful and ultimately effective course.
