This book was very enlighting on how to help deal with the issues of a strong willed child.

The most useful tool I have ever found!!!

My first child was (note that I say "was") a very difficult child, so I have read many books on raising children. Most were good in a philosophical sense, but The DQ Factor is the most practical, useful book I have ever read. It helped me understand my child, and it taught me how to parent him specifically (as opposed to broad generalizations). It breaks children up into 4 groups, and each group has a main motivation for why those children tend to misbehave. The book is broken up by each category; Bear, Monkey, Lamb, and Pocupine. Included in each section is an explanation of the group, a discription of the feeling that the parent tends to feel in reaction to their child (believe it or not, it works!), and what specific types of discipline work best for those kids and why. It is amazing! My son is a very strong monkey, and this book has turned around our family. I was extremely frustrated and he was aggressive and violent. We had tried evreything, and nothing had worked. This book was an answer to my desperate prayers. I recommend it to ALL people who have children. I heard about it from Focus on the Family. By simply hearing a discription of how the parents of Monkeys feel about discipling their children, I knew my son was a monkey. I immediately bought the book, and began to learn what makes him tick. I began to understand why he does what he does, so now I can choose the best method of discipline for him. Monkeys act up for attention, so we started using time-outs consistently and other techniques from the book, and he is a different child! I thank God and The DQ Factor for giving me my son back! (and my sanity!) :)

Personality specific parenting advice- Finally!!!

This book allows you to define the type of child you have FIRST and then gives you ways to deal with (and ways not to deal with) your specific child. Parents know that not all children are alike- and, thankfully, Greg Cynaumon knows that, too. His book is the first I have found that does not give general advice for solving the behavior problems. The advice is totally individualized for each child's personality and works like nothing else ever has! I have purchased so many books on strong willed children, whining, fits, tantrums, back talk and many others. In fact, my husband rolled his eyes at my purchasing yet another parenting book. Unlike the general "answers" found in all of those, however, this book offers detailed advice that fits my child. Greg offers several different alternatives to getting your child's attention that actually work because they are formulated for each child's personality. It is amazing! What works for my daughter does not work for my son and I now know how to handle each of them to prevent or stop bad behavior. Greg's law enforcement and religious background add so much to the phsycological side of him and it is evident in his writing. It is such a relief to have someone with real world experience that understands strong willed children write a book on parenting. This should be required reading for every parent- whether your child is easy going or a demon in the making!Thank you, Greg Cynaumon! My sweet child is back (with a deck of chores that works like a charm!)and my whole family is happier and calmer!

Although generally, a kid will be one kind of "animal in the zoo", I am suprised to find one of my children is actually TWO kinds: a Lamb for me and a Porcupine for his dad! He is very clever, indeed. But having a handle on this is terrific. We now know what he is doing an how to positively dicipline our teenager!

I would like to say that I have read several parenting books, and Dr. Greg Cynaumon has hit the nail on the head with this book. It is a great combination of practical psychology and God's message. But he doesn't bombard you with religious messages. Rather he allows you to see how both science and religion go hand in hand. It is amazing how I can understand the children in my life differently since reading the "DQ Factor".I am recommending and will even purchase this book for my friends and family. If you haven't read it you should take the time.
