I teach a special education literacy course for 7th graders. The first novel we completed this year was 'Disaster At Lunker Lake'. The kids in my room read anywhere from 2nd to 5th grade level material. Because of the high interest content of this book, even the lower level readers were disappointed on the days we didn't get to read. They even volunteered to read first on the days we did read. Every time we completed a chapter and were at a 'cliffhanger' the kids whined to read more. I highly recommend this book to other special ed teachers, and to those whose kids are reading at a 5th grade level. I recommend this book to those reading at a 3rd or 4th grade level who want a challenge with high interest content. This is a well-written story. I will definitely be using this story again next year!
