Excellent book for anyone managing their diabetes

This is a must have for anyone living with diabetes. It is written in easy to understand language and contains much needed information from diet and exercise to the mind/body connection. I found the chapter on nutritional supplements extremely informative. Drs. Colberg and Villa-Caballero guide the reader thru many aspects of diabetes management with gentle encouragement and precise recommendations to action. I would recommend this book very highly.

Diabetes

I just finished reading the book, and I am happy to say as a Diabetes Educator, Healthcare Provider and as a person who takes care of herself like having diabetes, through healthy eating and physical; the book is an excellent description about diabetes and the multiple wrong ideas that hispanics know about diabetes. The chapter that I most enjoyed talked about natural herbs and medications. The subject about natural medications is one of the most ignored between hispanics, and is the subject that most discrepancy creates between patients and providers. Patients have difficulties in accepting the medications prescribed by the healthcare professionals, and this book is a great resource that explains in details how to avoid such discrepancies. I recommend this book to any person who has diabetes, either American, Hispanic or any other racial background, who wants to improve its current health status and win the battle against diabetes. Excellent book, well written

The most complete book about diabetes for Latinos

Through a perfect storm of sorts, genetics and lifestyle choices have made us Latinos second only to Native Americans in having the highest incidence of diabetes in the US. Still it is inspiring to see how far we've gone with the treatment of diabetes and with our understanding of the role of foods and exercise in the prevention of type 2 diabetes and the management of diabetes in general. In Diabetes? No Problema Drs. Sheri Colberg and Leonel Villa-Caballero explain diabetes in a way that anyone raised in a Latino household can related to. They show a clear of understanding of Latino culture, manifested in things like the importance of family and the role that food plays in our social lives and gatherings. The authors share anecdotes of many Latin patients with diabetes and sprinkle a healthy dose of Spanglish throughout the book, bringing balance and fun to the topics dealt with. Through very clear explanations, they also help rectify some important myths surrounding diabetes and its treatment that have become deeply rooted among Latinos. Latinos getting diagnosed with diabetes are not faced with a death sentence but with an opportunity to incorporate fundamental changes into their lives to avoid complications resulting from diabetes and get to be as old as our abuelos. Reading this book and applying all the wisdom the authors have distilled into it will bring us one step closer to a long and healthy life.
