In 1994 I was hired to do a rewrite of part of this handbook for the Devils Tower Natural History Association and my name is included as one of the authors along with Steve Gardiner, who co-wrote the first edition with Dick Guilmette. As Mr. Gardiner turned his manuscript over to the DTNHA to revise and expand I was given opportunity to do just that and my concentration was on the historical, cultural and geological aspects of the Tower, including its climbing histories. Mr. Guilmette authored the climber information and first-rate descriptions of the climbing routes and deserves top billing, but Mr. Gardiner and I had a hand in the project. It is a holistic picture of the nation's first national monument and appeals to climbers and non-climbers alike.
