A pageturner!

I read the sequel first, but whoever thinks this a disadvantage is wrong. Unlike other authors (or editors!) Greg Donegan presents us with a round story that is fully completed and does not necessarily need a sequel. But both books are very good. This one is a trifle better even than the "Bermuda Triangle". What I think very good is that the author does not make the same mistake as many modern SF authors: he does not indulge in painfully long descriptions of technical devices that do not exist, but writes a story for the story's sake. And it is a story full of suspense with characters that are credible and alive. In this book the fantasy elements are missing that give such a decisive character to the second book. But here the characters and a well constructed plot take over and make this novel a unique experience. I am waiting for number three now and I am certain that it will be as good as the first two.

Another Outstanding Sci-Fi Action Series from Area 51 Author

Bob Mayer (AKA Robert Doherty AKA Greg Donegan AKA Joe Dalton AKA Bob McGuire) is truly one of the more masterful newcomers to the sci-fi genre in many, many years. Intermingling sci-fi with edgy military techo-thriller action, Mayer weaves some of the most enjoyable and imaginative fiction I've ever read with each novel. I look forward to every book he writes and have yet to be disappointed. The Area 51 series has been one of the most exciting I've ever read and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, along came the Atlantis series, which is equally as good, if not better. With the Atlantis series, Mayer weaves a story of how the deadly elements of what was once thought to be ancient mythology collide with our modern militarized world, bringing to bear a frighteningly realistic, gruesome battle for world domination. A centuries-old war being fought between interdimensional foes has resurfaced in three of the Earth's most mysterious regions. A ship missing since WWII and a covert group of soldiers missing since the Vietnam War, both of which vanished in such regions, suddenly re-emerge from them as though not a day has passed. Only one man has been successful at returning from any of these mystical regions alive and after learning what really happened to Atlantis, he may be the only man who can save the world from a similar fate at the hands of the most deadly evil that has ever threatened it.The Atlantis series is truly some of the most inspired and imaginative fiction in recent history and masterfully mixes the sci-fi genre with modern age fiction, providing enough action to keep fans of even Tom Clancy glued. Mayer has truly authored some of the best page-turners in recent history. If you are intriqued by the Atlantis series, be sure not to miss his Area 51 series (under the Doherty pen name) and his military thrillers such as The Omega Missile, (Dalton pen name), The Gate (McGuire pen name) and Psychic Warrior (Doherty pen name). All are well worth picking up and will keep you enthralled from start to finish!

Spectacular and thought-provoking at the same time!

Is there an alien connection with the lost city of Atlantis? How does the ancient city in Cambodia of Angkor Kel fit in? This exciting novel penned by the author of many names(Bob Mayer aka Greg Donegan here!) is the start of a new series and attempts to answer these questions, among many more about the world's mysteries. In the story, which begins with aircraft disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle in 1945 and then a strange alien encounter with a special forces unit despatched to Angkor Kel to recover a crashed reconnaissance aircraft occurs during the Vietnam war. Move forward to the present. Another plane, a privately-owned geological survey jet, crashes in the same spot. As communications are blacked out by strange signals, a special forces unit led by Eric Dane, survivor of the Vietnam encounter is sent there by the President. Not only that, signals are being bounced off satellites all round the globe which arer believed to be too advanced for human technology! Military action buffs and sci-fi fans will love this introductory novel to a new series, and to those who gave it one star, give it a chance. The prose is easy reading, the narrative fast-paced and the technologies are explained in the least amount of detail so as anybody can understand, which in this type of novel is fine. And this comes highly recommended.

Great Read

I found this book interesting and fun to read. The characters in the book are original and the plot is quite unique. I have not read any other books by this author or under his other penname. But I will be looking for future works by him. The unique twist of old time myths and modern day technology make this a fascinating tale and quick exciting read. It has good visualization and does not dwell in great amounts of detail. I read some of the other comments from readers and must say 2 things. I agree somewhat about the ending being somewhat disappointing, although if he is planning a sequel he did leave the reader thirsting for more and I wish the book had been a bit longer. I disagree though with the people that felt it was unimaginative and trite. Oh well, to each his own. Great book,I recommend it heartily.

this is one DAMN GOOD book!!!!!!

I read this book in one night, I just couldn't put it down. Donegan put quite a twist on the whole "Atlantis" and "Bermuda Triangle" deal. But, what got me was the "special gift" that the lead character, Dane had. That was awesome. This is one of my all time favorite books by him, along with the Area 51 series(which was written under a different pen name, Robert Doherty). The only thing that I didn't like about the book was that it was too damn short. I can't wait for the sequel to come out.
