Briding the Emotional Intelligence/Behavior Gap

"Developing Emotional Intelligence: A Guide to Behavior Management and Conflict Resolution in Schools" effectively bridges the chasm between interpretable inner psychological emotions and observable external behaviors. Bodine and Crawford help move us beyond our frustrating attempts of judging behavior through linear logical thinking and on to more effectively interpreting (and choosing) behavior based on emotional intelligence. While the subtitle, "A Guide to Behavior Management and Conflict Resolution in Schools" implies an emphasis on school-aged individuals, Developing Emotional Intelligence's" lessons are equally applicable to working adults. I recommend "Developing Emotional Intelligence" for anyone leading their organization's initiatives for leveraging Emotional Intelligence to increase their organizational performance.

Excellent Guide

These authors have succeeded in writing an impressive guide, not only for behavior management and conflict resolution in the schools, but for respectful communication/interaction techniques for use by all people, in all situations. If teachers and parents used this approach in both the classroom and at home, our children would grow up to be responsible, respectful individuals. The book is well-written and easy to follow. The handouts and activities are easily applied and very useful.
