As we take care of our outsides, what are we doing about our insides?

Loree Taylor Jordan is passionate about poop! With funny quotes and chapter subtitles (...Fluffy Floaters, Stinky Sinkies...), she approaches the serious subject of detoxifying our innards after cumulative years of abuse. As we baby boomers not-so-quietly enter our golden years, we need to assess the quality of our health. While our generation spends hours and dollars on making sure we look good on the outside, what are we doing to take care of the inside? Jordan emphasizes the need for purging our bodies of years of accumulated toxins through herbal cleansing, colon hydrotherapy, and herbs to replenish the good bacteria that aids in our digestion. She suggests that many of our diseases and illnesses--such as cancer, may be the result of internal toxification. Jordan says that even those of us who eat relatively healthy still suffer from the cumulative effect of toxins stuck to our intestinal walls. Some of us suffer from bouts of headaches, dizziness, fatigue, or unclear thinking. She confesses that even she was surprised when she eliminated a black rubber-like snake of mass one day. I've read about this before and I honestly don't understand. I reflect on those who abuse their bodies with poor dietary habits and those who ingest the best nutrient-rich foods, whose colonoscopies reveal a clean pink-lined colon. As passionate as Jordan has been about eating healthy and detoxifying, and even "forcing" her now ex-husband and two sons to do the same, I wondered what she is doing now. Seven years after the publication of her Detox book, I found several online videos of her talking about addiction...to donuts. Detox for Life is still an informative and resourceful read. It encourages you to be conscious about what you put into your mouth and to chew your food slowly in order to allow the enzymes of your saliva to start digesting the food before you swallow. As I approach my life's half-century mark and find my own digestion growing sluggish, I started doing the following: drink more prune juice to soften the stool (Jordan didn't recommend this specifically, but it's something I decided to do until I have my initial colonoscopy); eat raw garlic or onion (when I'm working in my home office) in order to rid my intestines of potential parasites (I eat sushi and raw beef in the form of chi-kufta, an Armenian meat appetizer); try to drink half my body weight (in ounces) of water each day, and try to eat even more raw veggies and fruits for their enzyme-rich properties.

Informative, Funny and Practical, a guys perspective.

Like most men I avoid the doctor and don't always listen to my body or wife when I should, and I shrug off the little aches and pains that could be signals the body is trying to tell me something... Well, this handily little information packed book will help you to avoid doctor visits, especially the most feared by men, the ones for their backside. It's an easy read that give insight and practical information that is easy to implement and logical. Jon

Serious measures for a serious subject -- written with humor

You can get a bit of a shock from this book, but you really need to know the material presented here. It's a matter of life or death. This book covers subjects like parasitic infestation (yes , it's possible), flatulence and digestive problems, constipation and bowel conditions, and even colon cleansing procedures. Jordan says the increase in cancer rates along with our polluted environment and the additives in our food all make colon cleansing -- indeed, system cleansing -- crucial to our individual health. Twelve medical doctors support her theories of detoxification and there are illustrations, cartoons and diagrams to emphasize points. This really is an important book, especially if you're "of an age," for as we get older, taking extra precautions for our health becomes more and more important.

At odds with more commonly held medical preconceptions

Detox For Life by certified colon hydrotherapist and educator Loree Jordan is a superbly presented self-help guide to being good to one's colon through proper nutrition and water drinking, colonic cleansing, an appropriate exercise regimen, and the taking of beneficial herbs. The author's personal passion for colonic health shines through as she forcefully presents her program for internal cleansing. Detox For Life dares to be at odds with more commonly held medical preconceptions; the author claims that anyone who poops less than 3 times a day is constipated and exhorts 7-day fasts combined with a colonic cleansing and herbal program for overall wellness. Written with a personal touch of humor, Detox For Life is a highly recommended and potentially life-saving alternative point of view for anyone suffering from bowel problems or who wants to improve their overall health from the innards up.
