A life changing meditation on what it is to be human.

I first picked up this slim little book when I was 17. Sharing my father's philosophical bent, I frequently searched his library for books. I was immediately attracted to this title, like any thoughtful person with a slightly grim disposition would be, and brought it to my room for a slow, private mulling over. But I was soon confronted with the dreary fact that I simply couldn't grasp the material. Now, almost two years later, and having just completed the book successfully, I see my initial fondness for the title was a damn good thing. The longing I had to understand the book, and of course to understand my OWN despair more fully, HAS, through Evans' beautiful work, provided me with a pathway into a deeper understanding of what it is to be human.
