Patterns that are still relevant!

Divided into four sections: textured stitches shown in white (translation: cabled patterns); feminine and classic looks in soft muted coulors (cables, lace, etc.); geometric designs in prmary colors and rich, bright, tweedy fleced yarns. Almost all of the patterns in the first two sections are classic enough to wear today. Also, there is shaping beyond the normal box look of the 1980's and even many designs that appear to be form fitting rather than the extra baggy tunic. While the last two sections are more trends applicable to 1987, there are still a few that might be worn now such as Madison, a double breasted, puff sleeve black coat jacket and the Hanover man's cabled pull-over. Since the photography is good with full body shots and no arms/hair/objects covering the details, it is easy to discern the final knitted product. All photos are color and most are full pages. It was also a hoot to see the pattern, Britannia, a tunic/dress with a black background and white fair isles interpretation of Great Britian! I had read about this item somewhere ages ago and not know a pattern existed. There is a cute note about the Outer Hebrides not being on the knitted item but on the graph...and a couple of other geographic challenges. I added a used - very good copy to my collection. I have yet to knit a pattern so I cannot comment on the accuracy of the patterns.

Amazing!

I honestly haven't knitted anything in this book yet. But the photos are glorious, the ideas a wonder, and the instructions easy to read. Even thought the book was published in the 80's, there are some outstanding signature pieces that will stop traffic today. I can't wait to get all my other projects outta the way to work on the full length cardigan!
