I found this book to be extremely helpful. Unlike most books, it helped me focus to discovery what I wanted instead of guessing what I might like from descriptions of differnt styles.

An excellent resource for the contemporary garden Designer

Diarmuid Gavin is one of my favorite garden/landscape designers who always comes up with innovative and contemporary solutions that are always both functional and beautiful. This book is much more than just a picture book of his past projects. It is a carefully crafted course in garden design, by a master in the field. Written in highly accessible language-- with a profusion of explanatory sketches, illustrations and photographs-- it is perhaps one of the clearest design texts on the subject.
