I am an architect that has been trying to understand what I'm about to get into in being part of a design-build team. I found this book really easy to read and it gave me some perspectives on liability, especially ownership of my design documents. It's written in a case-note summary approach, so I could quickly find the point of the case and then see what the facts are. I liked the author's practical suggestions on what lessons are to be learned. The approach is a nice balance to the other books out there on design-build, such as Bill Quatman's book on Design-Build for Design Professionals, which I also really like and recommend to architects and engineers.
A Valuable Resource

As an attorney with an interest in construction-related court decisions, I have found this book to be a valuable resource. Mr. Loulakis has made a tremendous effort to research, catalog, and describe the various decisions issued by courts and boards of contract appeals arising from design-build projects during 2001. This book is useful to everyone involved in the design-build process, including owners, contractors, design professionals, and attorneys. It appears that the author's goal is to write a similar book every year on this subject. I applaud his efforts and look forward to the 2002 edition.
Great stuff!

I am a public owner who is actively involved in trying to manage design-build projects. Loulakis is one of the leading authorities on the legal issues in design-build and I have each of his previous 6 editions of Design-Build Lessons Learned. They are well-written, easy to understand and provide valuable lessons. What I appreciate the most is that this series of publications provides the only, as far as I know, listing of all design-build cases that arise in a given year. The 2001 edition has a number of unique design-build cases, particularly in the public sector, which is just what I needed. Looking forward to the 2002 edition already!!
