The business of Death is never done. Asato Tsuzuki works as a Shinigami, or "Guardian o Death," in the Ministry of Hades. It's his duty to make sure that the souls of the dead reach the afterlife, but contrary ghosts and humanity's evils keep getting in the way of a job well done. With all these problem assignments, will he ever get a bonus...or will he be stuck paying back damages for all eternity? Young women are being murdered and hanks of their hair cut out at a Kyoto college. Tsuzuki and his fellow Shinigami, Hisoka and Watari, travel to the campus, where they find the evil Dr. Muraki at the heart of a hideous human cloning experiment. With the help of one of the professors, Muraki is trying to recreate his famous grandfather's success--a subject who lived for eight years without food or water Tsuzuki and Hisoka pose as teachers to protect the students, but there is no protection from Muraki's terrible claims about Tsuzuki's shadowed past...
Descendants of Darkness has quickly became my all time favorite manga. The artwork is breathaking and the characters are adorable and complicated. Hisoka and Tsuzuki are both beautiful and have such heartbreaking pasts but they work their way through the pain with each other. They're both lost souls that find one another and this is why they have to be one of my most favorite couples. I read a review that stated that the relationship is nothing but brotherly. Don't believe that for one second. They do refer to one another in a familial way but it's because they don't quite know how to describe their feelings for one another. The obvious undercurring attraction along with Tsuzuki's unrelentless flirtations and Hisoka's blushes at Tzuzuki's sexual innuendos can attest to that. Muraki has to be my most favorite villian due to that fact that he is completely evil but yet he is not one dimensional at all. He thrives on hurting Tsuzuki and Hisoka (especially Tsuzuki and sexually harrassing him as well). The attraction between him and Tsuzuki is one sided despite what some like to think. The only time I have ever seen Tsuzuki showing an attraction to Muraki is in the anime and that's only to a slight degree. In both manga and anime Tsuzuki has shown more interest in Hisoka then in any other character. The relationship is so beautiful and I'm looking forward to seeing their story unfold.
