Action-packed read

I have to say, that I disagree with most of the posters here. I found this book to be written well (although I do think possibly the editing [typos, name mix-ups] could have used some help). It started off at a really good pace and stayed there most of the time. However, it was nice to have it slow down once and a while and either give us a peak into the heroine's past or add information to the overall setting of the book. and for me at least, tried to flesh out the other background/surrounding characters, so you could understand, why she felt the way she did. Yes, I do agree that it did have a lot of information as it is the beginning of a new character series for this writer. But the ending left me looking forward to the next installment. Also, since this was the first book that I had read by McCray, it peaked my curiousity about her other books. I think if you like a combination of romance, mystery and action, you'll like this book. However, if you don't like your genres to mix, then yes you'll be disappointed. If you need your stories to be wrapped in a nice neat package at the end, again, this book might not be for you. Also, we all shouldn't take ourselves so seriously - these type of novels are what they are, fantasy and a nice escape from the real world once in a while. Sit back and enjoy the story for what it is.

Going to become a "keeper"

I Love this new series. I was fortunate enough to get a signed copy from the author by bidding for it. The auction is for Juvenile Diabetes foundation through Brenda Novac. Anyway. I have been a fan since the "Magic" series. So anything new from some of my favorite authors is always worth a look. I was VERY happy that I bought this one. Nyx is strong and tough and strangly insicure. It makes her seem more human, considering she is only half human, the other half is Drow or Dark Elf. The fact that the people and "Others" seem to die around her a lot is very nerve racking for her.I am looking forward to the second book in the series, I also hope that there will be more than 2. If you are interested in magic and demons and even strange and funny humans then check out this new series.

Cheyenne McCray kicks A..

I have read previous books by Cheyenne McCray ("Forbidden Magic" & "Seduced by Magic"), and I have to say I have been appalled by some previous reviews by readers and it seems strange to me to say bully male readers or should I say writers? The only thing I can think of is as a female who reads paranormal romance often (and yes by often I mean every other day) from everything from CANDACE HAVENS (I just met her [woohoo] and she is wonderful), LAURELL K HAMILTON (Yeah, Anita Blake and Merry Gentry, & now addicted to comics), YASMINE GALENORN , MARY JANICE DAVIDSON, CHARLENE HARRIS (can you believe Sookie is on HBO, woohoo), KIM HARRISON, ILONA ANDREWS (new author I absolutely LOVE), CHRISTINE FEEHAN, and so many more... The only reason I can think for hating this novel that I absolutely loved and waited for release is jealousy. It is difficult for male writers to understand the female psyche and write the genre to gain the popularity of these awesome female authors. Nyx Caer, is a princess, who expected to be submissive but is anything but expected as she hunts dangerous demons and other supernatural creatures. Yes, she has a lot of powers, like many other creations from other authors have but she is unique. Why do men feel the need to put woman down even in fiction is amazing to me. DEMONS NOT INCLUDED should be included in the library with Sookie, Anita, Merry and all the other strong female heroines of the fiction world that we can escape to, enjoy and have peace through their trials and accomplishments. Enjoy this book for the pleasure it should be, escape, enjoy the paranormal and know that tomorrow bring reality in all its drama.

Demons Not Included

McCray's world building is at it's best in this action-packed read. A cast of well-developed characters, an edge-of-your-seat battle between good and evil, and McCray's trademark sizzle kept me engaged from beginning to end. I can't wait for the next installment in the Nyx saga!

super extremely dark Manhattan supernatural police procedural

In present day New York City, Half-breed (human and drow elf) Nyx and her purebred human partner Olivia investigate supernatural felonies. At night when her darker elf side takes control, she is an elitist Tracker working for Rodan hunting down demons not included in the Underworld. Nyx and her Tracker peers are shocked when one of her elite teammates is murdered and a human police liaison vanishes. Nyx fears something nasty is coming at the same she mentors a new Tracker Torin, whose essence she cannot read; something she finds intolerable and distrustful. She also hides her attraction to human police detective Adam Boyd, who is working the case; as she assumes he will reject her drow side. As other Trackers die, Nyx panics that the midnight end is now. Leaving the "Magic" saga behind, Cheyenne McCray begins a new urban fantasy enchantment series with the first Night Tracker thriller. The story line is fast-paced from the onset, yet Ms. McCray introduces fans to her vision of a paranormal New York City through the investigations. Nyx is a kick butt heroine who keeps the exhilarating plot focused on the inquiry into the serial killing of Trackers. DEMONS NOT INCLUDED is a super extremely dark Manhattan supernatural police procedural. Harriet Klausner
