Book Overview

A Demon. . .Not Just In Bed

Practical Josephine "Jo" Burke has no patience for the paranormal--even if she's been having some strange visions lately. But if she is losing her mind, at least it would explain her new attraction to her co-worker, the least suitable man she could ever fall for. . .

Maksim Kostova has no idea why he's so drawn to feisty mortal Jo, but he does know how she feels about the supernatural. Forget about her accepting...

demon can't help it

It had a great story line and great ending I have read the book more than once

Some Secrets are better left untold

I was really excited about this book! I really enjoy all of Kathy Love's romantic supernatural novels! I didn't know this one was a sequel to the other two. (Anyway you want it and I want you to want me) I plan to read those. This is about Jo who moves to New Orleans after some awful thing that has happened to her in DC. She meets Makism when she goes to the bar where her friends husbands play. (This ties in with the first two books) Makism is a very sexy demon who attracts all women but suddenly wants Jo. She is a director at a Community Center where Makism eventually goes to work there where he can lure Jo in. It's a pretty good novel. Alot of romance. Sometimes Jo did annoy me. She kept thinking about some secret that if she told she would lose Makism or her friends would hate her. Once the secret is revealed the novel starts rushing. I didn't like the way the Jo found out he was a demon. As I said, it starts getting really quick to tie the finished plot in. The ending was really cute and I did like the novel in the end. I really hadn't thought much about the secret while I was reading. It doesn't seem all important. When the secret gets brought up, it really changed my view on the whole Jo and Makism thing. Then the next chapters are all around the secret. The secret really annoyed me at times. It got brought up more and more as to try to catch up and be a main part of the plot. The secret made me really dislike the novel at times and at the same time make the novel cuter. All in all it is a good supernatural romantic read. Kathy Love is a wonderful author and I highly recommend reading her books.

4.5 stars - Yum, bad boy demon Maksim is oh so good.

We met the selfish sensual demon Maksim in the last book in Love's New Orleans paranormal romance series (Any Way You Want It, I Want You To Want Me) - Maksim was playing boy toy to Ren and Vittorio's psychotic mother while trying to find his missing sister. Maksim is still hunting for his sister, but he gets a bit distracted from his search when Jo (friend to former leading ladies Erika and Maggie) relocates to New Orleans. Maksim is intrigued by Jo because, unlike all other living breathing human females, Jo completely ignores him. The bruises to his ego fuel Maksim's pursuit of Jo, but his attraction to her takes on a life of his own and soon he's not acting very demonish at all. And though Maksim's positive a demon can't fall in love, it isn't long before he's doing a pretty good imitation. I know I am running the risk of being repetitious, but I do so love it when bad boys go good. Author Love does an excellent job with Maksim, as his initial shallow motives become more complicated and he has to deal with the bewilderment of handling all of his new undemonlike feelings and *gasp* Maksim, the prince of the eight circle of h*ll, is forced to cope with Jo's multiple rejections. Jo is a bit irritating and angsty in the first few chapters with her fear that, since she is 'seeing' people who are not there, she is going nuts and her constant mental talk about not thinking about the consequences of the unfortunate affair that caused her to relocate from D.C gets a bit old. But once her 'secret' is out in the open she improves as a character, ends up being worthy of Maksim's love, and ultimately ends up dealing with Maksim's secret in a suprisingly mature way. The story line with Maksim's sister is resolved here, but it is so thin as to be almost nonexistent. I am guessing that her presence is solely to have a character to carry forward for another book - which by the way, I'll be reading. I enjoyed the leading men and the romances in the previous two books (though I still think 'Lampir' is a lame name for an emo vampire) but Demon Cant' Help It is the best of the series. I loved Maksim and his HEA and with the great job Love does with her first demon lover, I can't wait to see Love's demoness in denial.

Demon Can't Help It by Kathy Love

I liked it! "Demon Can't Help It" by Kathy Love was funny. The heroine irked me a bit by being wishy-washy and wimpy at times, but the hero...my, my, my. I want a Maksim of my own. Jo doesn't believe in the paranormal. Pretty inconvenient now that she's seeing ghosts! Or maybe she's just going wacko? Either way, something's wrong and Jo's move to New Orleans to be near her friends doesn't seem to be helping. Now she's involved (and how the heck did THAT happen) with a smoking hot guy who seems to be perfect...and we all know there's no such thing. Maksim is a demon. That's right: damned, delicious, and diabolical. He's ruler of the eight level of hell and darn proud of himself. He's selfish (HEY, he's a demon), he's sexy, and he can get any woman he wants, human or other. So why is he suddenly chasing (!) this human woman? And having these...these Feelings! But no matter how hard he tries, he just can't get her out of his head. What's a demon to do? Funny and fun to read. Although you may want to smack Jo around a bit, Maksim makes the books worthwhile. All the Kathy Love books I've read so far are paranormal, sexy, and humorous--and that's a hard mix to do well! If you've read her previous New Orleans BRAVA imprint books, you'll get to read about some old friends which was just icing for me. Love has some of the funniest banter out there and her heroes are always yummy. That's enough for me!

amusing paranormal romance

Josephine Burke denies the paranormal exists and if they did she thought they should be dispatched to hell. Instead she prefers her two feet on solid ground not in some silly supernatural urban fantasy. However, lately she has some problems sleeping as her nocturnal dreams involve her new co-worker Maksim Kostova giving a hickey or something similar to a seemingly dead girl. The newcomer is irate with himself over his attraction to the prejudicial mortal. Maksim wants to ignore her, but cannot. However, he believes if she ever learned what species he is, she would walk away in disgust. Still he has a flicker of hope when she tells him about seeing a dead woman; unwilling to reveal her fantasy starring Maksim. DEMON CAN'T HELP IT is an amusing paranormal romance with wet dreams that keep Jo (and readers) awake at night. In daylight she denies her nocturnal desires by insisting she just needs a man; that is a mortal man. Maksim's self-flogging muses make the tale so much fun as he wonders how in hell (at least the eighth circle which he called home for eternity) could he fall in love with a denying biased b**ch. Readers will love this "fangtastic" author's latest urban fantasy romance (see I WANT YOU TO WANT ME) in which devil's food cake is a house specialty. Harriet Klausner
