An Important Insight

Francis MacNutt makes a very important observation in this book: Demons infect emotional wounds just as pathogens infect physical ones. He is careful to treat both the infection and the wound, so as to prevent re-infection. A very valuable book..

Life Changing

This book is an incredible tool and blessing to me. It is a concise, practical, wise, Jesus-centered, and intelligent handling of an extremely misunderstood subject. Practically the book gave me the tools I needed to pray for both my wife and daughter who were being demonized. The victory over demons was won on the Cross by Jesus, but Francis provides a framework for us to understand and utilize this victory. God Bless Francis MacNutt

A good manual for the serious student.

As a particularly important study of mine I have read several books on this subject and researched it through a variety of other sources. Of all the books, strictly on this subject, I found this by far the best manual for basic exorcism from a mostly fundamentalist viewpoint, (i.e. you will not find occultic rites for purification, binding spells or salt circles etc.). MacNutt handles the subject with unusual even mindedness. He gives an excellent understanding of exorcism (deliverance, a nice PC term for simple exorcism) from a Christian standpoint. He does so without singling out any particular denomination for either acclaim or ridicule. It is even difficult to tell for certain what denomination he is, from the text, though it appears to be some form of Charismatic branch. I found this refreshing as it lended credence to exorcism as an across-the -board necessity instead of a rite practiced by exclusive Jesuit priests, and yet gives proper respect to the dangers involved.MacNutt goes on to give credence to other forms of exorcism (such as Buddhist exorcists), and at least treats them as relative equals. I might have wished that he had allowed them a bit more credit for their abilities and gone into more detail, but from the standpoint he was working from that would have been quite difficult. If you are a Christian (or anything else, and don't mind a little dogma), this is one of the best, most practical and well written on the subject. One final note: be warned that he does strongly suggest Baptism in "the Spirit". Even as a Christian with no personal affiliation to such a ritual (if you wish to call it that), I found no problem with it and might even consider it myself. Some extreme fundamentalists of various denominations might. I hope that will not detour you from this book.

Best manual on the subject of deliverance

This is an excellent book on the practical how's and why's and when's when the deliverance ministry is where God has led you. Relevant examples, good balance of inner healing of wounds and spiritual healing is taught. As my own life experiences with this ministry accumulate, the information he gives is verified and affirmed repeatedly, especially when dealing with the spirits, entry points and how to proceed. Of course, the Holy Spirit is still the primary source of all "how-to's", but the information MacNutt offers is invaluable. Also recommend Noel and Phyl Gibson's Evicting Demonic Intruders and Rebecca Brown's He Came to Set the Captives Free. I have read over 80 books on the subject of deliverance, demonology, occult and the like, and the above mentioned books offer the best insight and information.

This book changed my life

This is by far the finest book I have read on the topic: sane, informed and very practical. Fr. MacNutt has a deep knowledge of history also, making his work a refreshing contrast to the anti-intellectualism of many associated with Pentecostal ministries.
