Deliverance at Los Banos: The Dramatic True Story of Survival and Triumph in a Japanese Internment Camp. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Anthony Arthur's account is perhaps the best in my view. Written in the early 1980s, Arthur was able to interview many of the participants who were still alive. His treatment is not only military in perspective but he also lays out in easily readable terms all the local social and political issues that impacted the prisoners and the formation of the camp. The author is both an English Lit professor of some renown and also a Korean War vet with "boots on the ground" experience. His subtle identification of some serious pre-war failures on MacArthur's part that led to this event are interesting. While now out of print, it is worth the effort to get an old dog-eared copy. Arthur has also written several other historical books and is soon to posthumously publish one on General Joe Shelby and his Civil War history in the Confederate Army and down in Mexico.
