Book Overview

Twenty years ago she had her whole life spread out before her. She was Bess Walsh, a freshly scrubbed middle-class student ready to conquer the design world. And she was taken. Absolutely and completely.

But not by Andy, her well-groomed, intellectual boyfriend who hinted more than once about a ring. No--during that hot summer as a waitress and living on the beach, she met Nick, the local bad boy. He was, to put it mildly, not someone she could...

Audiobook - Extremely Haunting and Unforgettable Love Story

5++++!! Just completed this book (audio version) right now, and I'm still completely stunned and deeply emotional over it! One reviewer already said they bawled their eyes out, and I have to say the tears were just a'rollin' for me as well. I HIGHLY recommend this to erotic romance lovers (it's highly "mainstream" erotic), and for those who "don't mind a REALLY WELL WRITTEN romantica, don't miss this one. Additionally, if you are an audiobook listener, skip reading it and indulge in the complete emotional journey (including the music at beginning and end) that the reader, Savannah Richards, takes you on in her narration of this audiobook. Whew! (I had to finish writing my review with a bit more "book information" after I "decompressed" from this emotional read.) It took some thinking about what I could (or "should" or even "can") add to my review on this book. It's difficult because this is such an unconventional "romance" that the smallest comments seem to "take away" from the mystery and plotline of the book. And it's one that even I [Queen of wanting to know the "spoilers":] was glad I only had the tiniest amount of information on. Suffice it to say that you should be warned it will not conform with many of your "romance sterotypes in the end," but that said, take it as a draw to one of the (if not "THE") most haunting and captivating erotic romances you'll EVER read. Megan Hart is a fabulous weaver of emotional storytelling. The story is told between "THEN" and "NOW," in a back and forth fashion. I was never "lost in flash forward/flash back," because each chapter change specifically started out with the word "THEN," and "NOW," so once I was aware of the flow of it, I easily transitioned between the times, and it became part of the entire spellbinding build-up of the tale she was weaving (literally)! Bess migrates to the shore each summer with her family, which owns a large beach house; hosting the entire "clan," a new extended family member (aunts/uncles and counsins) every other week of the summer season. Bess spends her time working at a local candy/ice-cream shop and hanging and partying with her beachfront community college-age friends. Although Bess is not really big on drinking and rabble-rousing herself, she seems to tolerate her buddies on this account fairly well and goes along for the ride. On one such balmy-beach evening, she hangs at the impromptu party of her less than "BFF" friend Missy, and runs into Nick, whose got a reputation as the local bad boy. When she inquires of Missy who the guy across the room is that's silently bouncing "sparks" off of her to her great surprise, Missy states, "Who, 'Nick the Pri*k' you mean?!" With that, Bess begins a journey of a love like no other, and Hart makes you feel every pang that Nick and her experience in this story: giddiness, joy, jealousy, sadness and lust . . . and lust! ;) But most of all deep and abiding, long-lasting love for one another . . . that's never forgotten. I'm h

Wow...thanks MH

This was my first Megan Hart read and I have to say, I can't wait to read more of her. "Deeper" starts off a bit slow for me but with the twist of going back and forth in time, you feel like the two are coming to a point where they merge not only in time but emotion. I won't give away details and I do agree with some negative reviews claiming that Nick could have been expanded a bit more but... I have never had a book so sincerely grip my heart and twist. It's a beautiful story that seems so implicitly real. Every character is identifiable even if they aren't developed as much as some would like. I just finished reading this a few moments ago, the tears are still drying on my cheeks, the ache in my chest is still prevalent but I whole-heartedly recommend this book. It's simply amazing.

whimsical paranormal erotic romance

Bess McNamara Walsh is separated from her husband Andy after almost twenty years of marriage and two sons. She is sad, but goes to the beach house where she spent wonderful summers while attending college. Bess thinks back to waitressing and her friends back then. Mostly she fantasizes about Nick Hamilton, whom she wanted, but left to marry Andy. She never forgot him and wonders what became of him especially when she walks on the sand; a place where they had the sex of her life. When she meets Nick again, they go back to love making as if they never missed a moment let alone two decades. However, though it is as great as her memories, something is not quite right about Nick. Bess concludes she either must move on from a past love that in the present is only a whisper of what it once was and her present life; the ghostly loving memory of Nick, the alive Andy, or perhaps someone else. This is an exhilarating whimsical paranormal erotic romance starring a mother of two finding a second chance at love with the one who failed her two decades ago. Although she learns why he failed to come for her as he promised, she goes to him. Fans will appreciate this strong contemporary as Bess must choose between life and death. Harriet Klausner

Just the Right Depth...Even Better then Hart's Others

I won't write a review telling you what happens in the story. Frankly, I avoid reviews because they usually give too much away. What I will say is that I loved it! I have read all of Hart's novels. Some I liked better than others. All them tell a good story with plenty of what you would expect from erotica. This one was different in that I was emotionally involved with the main character, but not too the point of despair. As always the characters portrayed are well developed and feel real. In the back of my mind as I read, I thought this could happen, though I knew it to be fantasy. Deeper is also the perfect summer read since it takes place at a beach house during the summer season. If you have never read a Megan Hart book this is a good place to start. Then try Tempted and Dirty. Broken is more powerful, not a fluffy read. Deeper is just the "right depth" of romance and compelling story...thus my favorite by Hart so far.

Go Deeper..

Megan does brilliantly in showing us Bess and the five men who inhabit her world.. Her Husband, her young lover, her old friend and her two sons. The characters really came alive to me..i felt like i was Bess and i identified with her internal struggles. The book is really divided in two parts with half showing us Bess and her loves and losses twenty years ago and then in the present with how Bess and others have changed when she returns.. I was bought to tears at one point which almost never happens in a Romantica type novel. This book IS too deep too be called "Erotica" with sex scenes to raw and intimate to be called a romance novel. Megan saved the best for last as the final chapter was my favourite.. Read it.
