AMAZING

I do not understand the poor reviews for this book. I could hardly put it down. "The Descent" was one of those books I read a few years back that has always stuck with me -- I've thought of it countless times since I finished it. Didn't want it to end. When I found "Deeper" I dove right in and was thrilled when it was just as great as "The Descent." I love the characters, but the terrain and accompanying life forms really are the "main" characters. Beyond belief, really. I did find that the male characters seemed more believeable than the female ones, understandably so; however, I appreciated Long's depiction of two amazingly strong women (Ali and Rebecca). The addition of conversations with "The Angel" were fascinating, too: this book posited (much more than the first) that the hadal world cannot so simply be passed off as "evil" -- and provoked a great deal of thought as to who is MORE evil: hadals or humans. Food for thought, to be sure. Long's imagination is remarkable -- I wish I could see inside his head because the images are almost too amazing to be believed. This is a remarkable author. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!! I hope he'll write one after this!!!

An addictive sequel to The Descent

I've been surprised at the mixed reaction to this novel. Perhaps some people expected "The Descent...Continued", and "Deeper" is not that book. I won't provide a synopsis of the novel, but I will say that there is enough of "The Descent" in it that I literally had trouble putting it down each night before going to sleep. In my view, Jeff Long's writing skills have grown since "The Descent". Some of the descriptive passages are jaw-dropping. I found myself re-reading some passages simply to re-experience the vivid images the author had painted in my mind. If you enjoyed "The Descent", I highly recommend this novel. If you set aside your preconceptions and let the book stand on its own, I think you will really enjoy the experience.

A Solid Sequel!

This sequel was quite exciting - though I think I enjoyed _The Descent_ more. But I did read that these books are slated to be a trilogy which is VERY exciting. This one held a few surprises and overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it - even if it was a bit open ended for my tastes. I just mean that it was a little unsatisfying in the end with many questions as to what direction the ending will take... but hopefully the third installment of this trilogy won't take another ten years!

Jeff Long's DEEPER

This book grabbed me in the first sentences, and like most people I read a few pages but I couldn't stop there. I paid full price at Barnes and Noble and had to take it home and finish it. I Never pay full price for anything and rarely find a book that hooks me in as 'Deeper' did. It created a whole new world and perspective from which I'd never considered possible. It swallowed me up and I'd recommend this book as one of the best books I've read in 2007. It's a bit sci-fi, surreal reality, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head for the past year. Please just read the first few pages. If you aren't hooked, then nothing lost:0) -Peep

This is an excellent sequel to Jeff Long's "The Descent"!

I am amazed by the bad reviews of this book. I found the title to this sequel of "The Descent" to be just that..."Deeper." This is a mind blowing book from one page to the next. I found it very thought provoking and deep. You really have to pay attention to what is going on in the story however I never "got lost" or "confused" reading it. Jeff Long does an outstanding job of describing the horrible and dark world below. The characters are very believable in that they stayed to the story line from Jeff's first book in the series "The Descent." I am not going to say this book is not as good as "The Descent" because it is just that a sequel. Highly recommend!!
