Kate Kennedy rides the waves-of suspicion. When the surfer crush of Kate Kennedy's granddaughter is killed-and foul play is suspected-Kate must clear her granddaughter's name before she's thrown to the sharks.
This is another installment of the Kate Kennedy senior sleuth mystery series. Although I am no way near to being a senior myself, I have read them all and thoroughly enjoy them. I could understand why this installment may not seem interesting to some, because one really needs to read all the prior books to understand the history and why certain elements of the story are important. One of the best characters is Marlene, Kate's long-time best friend. She is colorful and a very human and "real" character. Kate is a widow who's having a lot of trouble not dwelling on her husband Charlie's untimely death and her move to Florida. She is a lovable character because she has real issues that she deals with like getting older and still being vital and "useful". The best part of the story is the incredible history she and Marlene share and the give and take of a true relationship. It is hard to find anyone in this modern day that has had a long-term friendship. It is an excellent example of loyalty; even though Marlene can get on Kate's nerves and infuriate her and vie-versa, they still come back to being friends. It shows that relationships are hard and they are work, but a true friendship is not disposable. I would definitely recommends this series!
