Not a Pleasure Cruise

The third Dotsy Lamb Travel Mystery takes the protagonist on a cruise among the Greek islands, along with her friends and Captain Marco Quattrocchi, the Carabinieri captain she previously met in Florence in an earlier installment. Early on Dotsy discovers a pool of blood on a deck, and when no other answer presents itself, a passenger is presumed to have been murdered and thrown overboard. Another plot theme involves illegally stolen antiquities, some of which are on display on the ship in showcases. What should have been a relaxing cruise turns out to be one continuous trial about murder and theft, all coming together on Crete where, of course, Dotsy puts it all together. This is the third novel in the series, all of which are quick reads, simple but well put together, although kind of cutesy. But that is the character Dotsy is supposed to be, so one has no quarrel with that. Recommended.

Brilliantly written cozy-mystery

Reviewed by Irene Watson for Reader Views (04/10) Greek island travel buffs, lovers of cozy-mysteries, and those that appreciate a well-written plot will take pleasure in another Dotsy Lamb adventure, "Death on the Aegean Queen." Although it's not necessary to read any other books in the series before reading this one, the reader will certainly get hooked enough to consider reading the others. Dotsy, determined to finally get to relax, of course, doesn't. What would the story be like if she did? Interested in archeology, the theme of the cruise ship, Dotsy befriends famous lecturer Dr. Luc Girard. The two of them, along with several other plot characters, discover the antiquities displayed on the ship have been stolen from museums or smuggled from the country of origin. To top that off, two murders occur - one being a car salesman from Indiana, and the other being the ship's photographer. As the mystery winds and unwinds, many surprises are unveiled and in the end the murders are solved. The question is - Are the lootings and the murders related? And, who dun it? Or, was there really a murder? The Greek islands have a special place in my heart and taking the journey with Hudgins into Mykonos and Santorini (my two favorites) brought back delightful memories. Her descriptions of the islands, including the towns, made me feel like I was right there with the characters riding on the donkey up the cliff, or walking past small white-washed homes on cobbled streets."Death on the Aegean Queen" by Maria Hudgins is sure to amuse the reader with wit, history, adventure, and most of all, enjoyment of a brilliantly written book.
