addresses the corporate schemes to make money off of consumer ignorance

Death by Supermarket by Nancy Deville will probably be largely read by people who already feel there's a certain malignancy in super market shopping. However as attracted as I was by the title I feel like the masses are the ones who should read this materiel. The book is so well written for the `average' person to comprehend. I personally shop in farmers markets and health food stores. I read labels and I consult with my doctor. But this book addresses the incredibly scary corporate schemes to make money off of consumer ignorance. I recently gave my daughter in law, who has health issues, a copy of Ms. Deville's book. She was preparing to wean her baby from breast milk to soy milk thinking she was doing the best thing. I earmarked the chapter on soy for her to read. After reading the book she decided not to give the child soy milk because of the facts revealed in that chapter. What's marvelous about this book is that not only through her research she has uncovered and revealed what you don't want to eat but she also supplies you with the solution of the best ways to eat. This book more than any other I've seen about life styles addresses the human desire to be healthy and happy and the simple way to fulfill it by eating real food and at the same time refusing to contribute to the monstrous way we treat animals and no longer being slaves to the drug companies lies for profit.

Mystery Solved. Case Closed.

Americans are destroying their health through the systematic consumption of foods prepared to satisfy the lowest common denominator in terms of quality, compliance and cost. Ms. Deville hits the nail on the head with terrific insights into everything from our national addiction to sugar and the grotesque hyper insulin response it is creating, to MSG, transfats and the chemical dump we are creating in our guts and bloodstreams. Is there any more confusion about obesity, diabetes, heart disease, strokes, and even cancer? Overall the book is a great read, Ms. Deville's tone shows as much genuine concern as it does outrage for the horrible misinformation the food and health care industry has been perpetuating. She also exposes the terrible truth that most of the popular diets used to fix the problem make matters even worse and can condemn our metabolism to a sluggish mess. This is a great read for anyone genuinely concerned about their health and the health of their family.

Family that eats really food!

YES! I cannot say enough about Death by Supermarket. I have two small boys, and just this week went to check one of them into Sunday Bible class and the teacher at one class told me my son is very very smart. I told her that I home school and my friend said, 'she also feeds him real food.' The teacher (who also teaches at regular school) said, 'that's makes a huge difference.' I too am going to use Death by Supermarket as a reference manual so that I can get others to understand why I put 'chemicals' and 'sugar' down on lists when I am checking my boys into classes and they ask for any allergies. I hope more people will get that we are ALL allergic to sugar and chemicals by reading Death by Supermarket! Before I started telling classes not to give my boys processed stuff I always had a battle of temper tantrums and meltdowns after classes where they had been given products to eat that had sugar, chemicals and dyes. I had some bad health problems and about two years ago I had an epiphany about what I was eating. I started eating real food and nothing packaged or processed and I lost 35 pounds by just changing to real food. My health is so much better, people are always asking me what I did. When I tell them I don't eat processed food anymore I usually get some sort of puzzled look.....Nancy Deville's book explains it much better than I can. I also want to say that I have a husband besides my two boys, and anyone who says that preparing food from scratch is difficult or unrealistic has never really tried. It's not rocket science and it in fact has made us a happier and healthier family. My boys jump up and down and beg for the marinated mushrooms and yes they are fussy, sometimes they tell me, "I only want the broccoli!"

Brilliant

The growing waistlines in America have been troubling me for years. With child obesity on the rise today, I've become more interested in understanding why our population is becoming so overweight and unhealthy. In Death By Supermarket, I've finally found a comprehensive and easy to understand reference that explains that the food and drug industries are responsible for our population gaining so much weight, and growing so ill. The book clearly explains the difference between real food and factory food products, how dangerous (yet regularly consumed) these factory food products are, and why they are manufactured in the first place. The appalling part of the story is that we as consumers are conned into buying and eating factory food products, when they provide no nutritional value, and in fact are making our population--including our children--fat and sick. I haven't been able to put this book down. It is eye-opening, candid, and well-researched, and should be on the bookshelf of every American today. The most enlightening part of the message is that this epidemic is in our control, and the book describes the healthy choices we can make to reverse the path we are on, and head in the direction of being healthy and fit.

This Book Will Change Your Life

After reading this book I know what to do to lose weight, feel energized and look younger. A must read. Eye opening. You will never shop for groceries the same way after reading this book. I wish I had read this a long time ago. The food industry is killing us! I would recommend this book to anyone.
