Intelligent Kid's Fiction

This is one of the best kids books ever -- a clever and thoughtful detective story that's not dumbed down for the grade 1 - 3 set. The first person present voice of the narrator makes the story immediate and exciting. I am astonished it's not still in print; to my mind it's a classic.

Childhood Favorite

I found a copy of this book buried in one of my parents bookshelves when I was a child, and absolutely loved it. It was one of the first pictureless books that I read many times. The imagery is new and interesting for a young child, and the tension level is just right. I don't know if it is this book that gave me my love of both detective fiction and cute, furry rodents, but it certainly encouraged that love. An English degree and an era later, I decided to find the book so that I could own my very own copy, the previous one being long lost in the shuffle. I hope my son and daughter will enjoy reading it as much as I did.
