Meh.

This wasn’t my favorite Nicolas Sparks book. Couldn’t get into it as much as I’d like to. If you’re new to his books I would recommend The Notebook or the Last song over this.

Dear John - Great story!

Just finished reading Dear John, and this story will stay with me for a long time. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys great relationship stories. It was so thoughtfully written. Thank you (again) Nicholas Sparks for a great read❣️

Loved

I will say the book is 100% better than the movie

Downer compared to the movie

After watching the movie, the book is missing something, quite possibly, it is John’s relationship with his dad, which never come quite full-circle. However, I did enjoy the lighter scenes in the book. The plot was nice, but not enough to reread this in the near future.

Extraordinary

I have only watched the movie but man... If it is anything to go by tune book will be better. Lovely story.

Really good!

This book was so amazing. I really liked it.

BEST Sparks book YET!

I love Nicholas Sparks, and this is his best one yet. This book is pretty much in a league of it's own. You will not be disappointed! Very relevant, current, and easily to become connected and emotionally drawn to the characters. (just like all Sparks books) But the story line of this book is SO deep. Wonderful wonderful book. Thanks again Nicholas....

LOVE IT!

I absolutely loved this book. I was never much of a reader before. But after reading this book it has made me want to read more Nicholas Sparks books. It was smooth reading, I didnt want to put the book down. I also recommend "A Bend in the Road".

True love never dies

Like all Sparks novels, this one has the elements of highly detailed scene descriptions, well-developed characters, true love, and of course, a touch of sadness. This novel does a superb job of capturing the reality of love. It's a powerful feeling that can carry a relationship through the most challenging situations (i.e. a soldier living thousands of miles away from home). However, it's not always enough. The reality is that circumstance (Fate) can break down even the strongest relationship. We all want to believe that if we truly find our "soul mate" or our one true love, all of the other obstacles in life will fade away. Sparks captures this well, but he also leaves us with (what I believe to be his general outlook on the issue) the fact that true love nevers dies. When you truly fall in love with someone, it is a connection that remains in your heart throughout the rest of your life. Even years later, even if you're with someone new, the feeling is something that remains strong within your heart. I thought this book captured both of these elements very well and very realisitically. I could completely relate to John and Savannah.

Dear Mr. Sparks: Congratulations--you did it again!

Just as I was about to give up on Nicholas Sparks after reading a string of mediocre novels following his first three blockbuster hits, I decided to give him one more chance. I'm glad I did! This is by far the best book he's written--even better than "The Notebook" and the two that followed, "Message in a Bottle" and "A Walk to Remember." I started reading "Dear John" at 8 PM one evening and couldn't put it down until I finished in the wee hours of the morning. Written in the first person by the young male protagonist, John Tyree, he tells the heartwarming story of his romance with the girl of his dreams--Savannah Lynn Curtis, whom he meets by chance one day on the beach. Their background and personalities are strikingly different, but yet they form an unexplainable bond that grows into a powerful love. Savannah is almost too good to be true, and I kept thinking: "Gee, I wish my son (who is John's age) could meet a girl like that!" I won't go into any details to spoil the plot, which turns out to have many twists and turns--not only involving John's relationship with Savannah but also a heartwarming story concerning John's father, John's time in the service, and his thoughts and emotions in general. This is a beautiful story, and frankly when I finished it left me emotionally drained where I wasn't able to get back to sleep just thinking about it. Not only is "Dear John" an entertaining read, but it was very well written and fast paced with a stirring conclusion. Congratulations to Nicholas Sparks on another winner!
