Good Book!

I enjoyed this book and it was interesting to learn about how people can be manipulated into doing just about anything.

Great Book

M. William Phelps is quickly becoming my favorite true crime writer(sorry Ann)and this book does not disappoint. This book is well written, holds the readers interest and is hard to put down. I can't wait for this authors' next book!

Great read for true crime fans!

I really enjoy reading anything written by this author. This is a great book. I would of liked to know a little more about the victims relationship with her husband but her son does a good job explaining his moms character. This is worth the money!

Gripping from the start

Phelps is one of the best true crime writers, and this book is no exception. The murder occurred in Pleasant Valley, a rural small town in upstate New York, where crime was infrequent, and murder rarer still. Yet it was here, in a church parking lot of all places, that Susan Fassett was shot to death. What is so unusual about the murder was the cast of characters, and why the murder was committed. The victim, Susan, was a well liked middle aged woman and mother who had been married for decades to a policeman. On the surface, her life was serene and ordinary. Beneath the surface, Susan's life was in turmoil. She had spent the last four years enmeshed in an affair with the last man on earth you would think any woman would want to have an affair with. Her lover was Fred Andros. Fred was a short, ugly man with impotency problems. He liked to portray himself as having 'connections' to big time criminals. He bullied Susan into engaging in sex with another woman. Susan's husband had recently found out about the affair, and it caused a crisis in their marriage. Susan promised she would give up Fred. I don't want to reveal much more, but you will be riveted by the strange relationship between Fred, Susan, and another person whose identity you don't learn at first.
