Please, may I have MORE?!

This is one of the most intellectually satisfying mystery novels I have ever read -- I had a hard time putting it down, even in the busy Christmas season. I recommend it to anyone who is a nurse or has met one! Eleanor Sullivan is extremely skilled at weaving together expertise on healthcare with plot and character development. Each page leaves you wanting to know more...I am looking forward to the next book in this series!

deadly diversion

I eagerly awaited this second mystery featuring Monika Eberhardt, a nurse who also solves mysteries that arise in the hospital setting. Eleanor Sullivan successfully evokes situations in hospitals today and uses them to create the environment for her mystery stories. I thought this one was even better than the first and highly recommend it.

can't wait for the next one!

Eleanor delivers another terrific, fast-paced mystery! Lots of twists and turns, realistic portrayal of medicine, characters I want to meet in person...and she makes me feel right at home with her references to the local flavors and colors of St. Louis, my hometown. I love it - I couldn't put it down - and now I can't wait for the next one! Hope it's coming soon.

Intensive Care or Intensive Murder?

At St. Teresa's Hospital, ICU head nurse Monika Everhardt struggles with serious understaffing, an insensitive boss, and a visit from the accreditation commission. In the meantime two patients have died. The younger son of the first patient gives one nurse a black eye and threatens the rest of the staff. The medical examiner calls the death of the second patient suspicious. To clear her staff, Monika embarks on a hunt for the truth. The trail leads her from the bars of South St. Louis to a casino on the Mississippi to the home of a retired undercover cop whose beat was the St. Louis mafia back in the old days. In Deadly Diversion, Eleanor Sullivan provides a puzzle to challenge the most demanding mystery lover, and she provides food for thought. Along with a gripping plot, you've got engaging characters, the humor and drama of the hospital workplace, and a view of today's health care issues from the nursing perspective. Deadly Diversion is a great read. Enjoy.

Intriguing Medical Mystery

Since I grew up in St. Louis and once seriously considered a career in mursing, it is only natural that I am hooked on the Monika Everhardt mysteries. This is the second in a series -- let's hope for many more -- and we get to know a bit more about Monika. She is smart and strong, but far from perfect. Her past (?) gambling problems are an interesting and original twist on the issue of addiction. There is definitely a St. Louis flavor to the book -- Eleanor Sullivan has neatly woven together its current politics and past history. The plot moves along and keeps you guessing, but it is really the hospital setting that makes the book. The descriptions of medical procedures should engage the fans of forensic TV shows, and the chilling results of cost cutting by hospital administrators should grab the attention of anyone interested in the future of health care. Although the book addresses serious issues, it still delivers everything a good mystery should -- high drama and a cast of quirky sidekicks and suspects, including mobsters, a Vietnam vet and medical personnel who are anything but what they seem. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a really good mystery.
