HARVEY IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES!

James Neal Harvey will always be one of my favorite authors. Dead Game and the other novels he has written, are all spectacular police novels. It is too bad that Mr. Harvey does not write any more. It is probably because he retired since he is about 70. I will always be looking for Mr. Harvey in the bookstores, just in case. Dead Game with Lt. Ben Tolliver is a true winner!

Lt.Tolliver is fighting to catch a killer & save himself

Edward Razek is a murderer who has just been released from a mental institution because he is considered cured and harmless. One of the first acts Edward does to celebrate his new found freedom is to play a DEAD GAME with NYPD Lieutenant Ben Tolliver, the cop who helped convict him of murder over ten years ago. Edward's opening gamut in the new game is to rape and kill a female Manhattan resident, leaving evidence behind that Ben is the culprit. ..... Ben quickly realizes that he knows the mutilated victim and thinks he knows the identity of the culprit. As the distaff body count rises, Ben knows that he must catch the same serial killer he sent away ten years ago. However, this time around his opponent has changed the rules, making Ben his ultimate target. Before long, the entire city is convinced that Ben went over the edge and is a serial killer. If he fails to stop Edward and prove that Edward remains the same violent sex offender he was ten years ago, Ben may find himself in trouble with the law and his life on the line in rules cleverly established, and diabolically implemented and adjusted by Edward. ..... DEAD GAME is a fast-paced, well written serial killer novel that is so graphic that it is clearly for the hard core mutilation lovers. The story line moves very quickly, but much of the suspense is lost because it is obvious to everyone except the characters what Edward is doing from the start. James Neal harvey scribes an interesting novel that is not intended for the weak of stomach (including this reviewer). If gore (not Al or Tipper) is your reading fix, this is the book to peruse. For everyone else, it is a bit to sanguine. ......Harriet Klausner
