So refreshing to read something about us and our relationships with so much laughter included. I sat and read it over the weekend and could NOT stop laughing. It seems like Troy steals people from out past and puts them on the page and brings them to life. I kept thinking, "I know him or her" every time I turned the page. Realistic romance, the real issues we deal with in Corporate America, and the real mistakes we make trying in both areas. I'm looking forward to book #2. Thank you Troy.
One voice that speaks to all

Let me start off by saying that, "I love this book". Troy Martin has taken situations that we've all been involved in either directly or indirectly and transformed them into a literary work of art. Troy tells writes this book from what I call a "real" perspective. I think the language that Troy used throughout the book aided in giving life to the points the he was trying to bring out. This book is truly amazing. It takes a lot for a book to capture and maintain my attention. Therefore, I find myself taking two to three months to finsh a book. So for me to have read this book within two weeks is a testimony as to how good the book is.I found myself really getting into the book such as s person does while watching soap operas. At times I felt mad, other imes I felt happy and then there were the times when I could feel the brother's pain. I highly recommed this book for all groups of people, be it black, white, male or female. Every individual will be able to relate to this book in some form. I am eagerly anticipating the author's next project.
Contemporary Life At Its Best....and Funniest

What a wonderful pleasure it is to read something that brings out such a comfortable sense of the familiar, as well as complete, tear-inducing laughter. It would only be proper for me to say thank you to author Troy Martin for creating such a vehicle. I thoroughly enjoyed-and was quite impressed with-his novel, Dazed and Confused, and highly recommend it.I think that what fascinated me most of all about the book was the familiarity of the characters. Take Elgen, for instance. His "pseudo-" political views about American youths are very reminiscent of conversations I've had with friends on that same subject. I even agreed with him on a few points. The interrelationships of the primary characters (male-male & male-female) are drawn so vividly that I felt as if I was a part of their group. Also, as the emotional, social, and career dilemmas of the lead character, Tony, unfolded, I found myself both empathizing with him and laughing `til it hurt. After reading Dazed and Confused, it is very easy to turn a discussion of the book into a discourse on life in general. Troy Martin has done such a superb job of mirroring contemporary life, that it is virtually impossible for his audience to not draw personal parallels. Quite frankly, I look forward to attending a discussion of his book, and contributing my own perceptions and personal parallels. Pick-up a copy and experience it for yourself.
Keep 'em coming Mr. Martin!

After having my girlfriend continuously remind (harass) me, I was pleasantly surprised to finally read Mr. Martin's debut novel. The story is a very comical and well-written tale of a contemporary black man's adjustment to post college life. The character of Tony Harris, as well as his eclectic assembly of friends, represents a lot of "bruthas" I know. If a reader is looking for a story that paints a poignant picture from an often "underrepresented" point of view, then I strongly recommend Dazed & Confused-Surviving Life in the Game. Be warned, the language is not for the weak at heart. However, the story is definitely one of a kind. ..." Maybe it's high time for bruthas to start forming our own BOOKCLUBS so if nothing else, we can stand behind those authors who are brave enough to tell our stories with passion and HONESTY! ... Marvelous job my brutha!
STILL DAZED BUT NO LONGER CONFUSED!

BECAUSE I DO NOT BELONG TO A BOOK CLUB OF ANY SORT, I SIMPLY READ BOOKS THAT INTEREST ME. THEREFORE, I FIND NO NEED TO SATISFY A CONGLOMERATION OF PEOPLE THAT NEED SUPPORT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BROADEN THEIR LITERARY HORIZON. TROY MARTIN HAS DONE A GREAT SERVICE TO A HIGHLY UNDER REPRESENTED POPULATION OF THIS COUNTRY, THE YOUNG AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALE THAT GREW UP IN A PREDOMINANTLY BLACK, MIDDLE CLASS AREA, CHOSE THE PATH OF SO-CALLED SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE BUT MAINTAINED AND EMBRACED THEIR CULTURE. FOR THOSE OF US WHO DIRECTLY RELATE TO MARTIN'S CHARACTERS, THEY ARE A REMINDER OF DAYS GONE BY....VERY ENDEARING DAYS! SIMPLY HOLDING A DEGREE SHOULD NOT FORCE ANY OF US TO RELINQUISH OUR "GHETTO PASS". THROUGH TONY HARRIS' WORDS, AND THE DEMEANOR OF HIS FRIENDS, MANY OF US CAN RESPECTFULLY "FEEL" THE TIME AND SOCIAL CLIMATE OF THE SETTING. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT MANY AFRICAN-AMERICANS WOULD PREFER TO SEE TRAGIC TALES OF OPPRESSION OR BIOGRAPHICAL STORIES OF OUR FAMED CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS. HOWEVER, WHEN A TRUE TO LIFE STORY SUCH AS THIS ONE HITS THE "MAIN STREAM", "OUR PEOPLE" ARE THE FIRST TO "HATE ON IT". HOPEFULLY MR. MARTIN WILL KEEP WITH THE "REAL" APPROACH HIS WRITING REPRESENTS. WHAT WE WOULD ALL GIVE TO HAVE THAT "ONE TRUE LOVE" THAT TONY HARRIS WAS ABLE TO RECAPTURE! WE LIVE AND LEARN...... TOO BAD YOUTH IS WASTED ON THE YOUNG!
