Another book of David Lee's wonderful stories. His "down-to-earth" poetry reminds me of Mark Twain more than anyone else. To me, this is the way poetry should be written. Lee's ear for regional idiom and rhythm carries poem after poem into the aural, oral tradition. At a time when so many of our poets are turning to philosophical meditation, Lee returns us to the stories of our lives. I recommend Lee's work to all young poets who are looking for a topic. The topic is right there under your feet. If you find that you love David Lee's work, you will want to read it all.
