My 2.5 year old loves this book, although he has systematically torn it up with use. Not very well made but he got his use out of this book.
I'm a fan of DK books

They're simple. They're informative. They're cheap. If your child is too young to read, they're perfectly good read-aloud books. What more can you ask for when stocking your kid's library? As you might expect, this book takes us through a day in a firefighter's life. The sentences are short and direct. This makes them easy to read, and it also makes the book more exciting. The fire in the book (you knew there had to be one) is not especially scary, and is dealt with quickly. More detail is given to the more usual routine - cleaning, taking a class on a tour to talk about fire safety, that sort of thing. I very much recommend this book for small children.
Well written! Exciting photographs!

Linda Hayward's beginning reader gives children a detailed and fascinating look into the day of a fireman and the job that he does dring a 24 hour shift. There are safety inspections, rescue work, checking all the equipment in the firehouse, etc. The picture word list in the back of the book is an excellent feature, refreshing the reader's knowledge.
Good for younger kids, too

Although these books are intended for young readers, my two-year-old daughter enjoys having them read to her. The language is easy and direct, the connection between words and pictures is very clear, and the short length fits her attention span. We have about six books from this series, but "A Day in the Life of a Fire Fighter" is her favorite - and she now loves to point out the "Exit" sign and fire extinguisher in any building we visit.
Huge hit with toddler boys!

This book was a big hit with my two year old son. For several months, it was the only book he would sit still for. The pop-ups provide lots of actions for little hands.
