This THE fashion book. Before this book, I was tangled up in concerns about dressing for my figure line, color profile, body weight , etc., etc... After Metamorposis, all that flew out the window! Thanks to David, I have stopped letting my penchant for Victoriana cause me to stifle myself in unflattering frills (my category is 'soft natural'), and my idea of dressing sexy is no longer tight waistlines and clingy fabrics. Be forewarned that Metamorphosis may dispel some of your most cherished ideas about your clothing style, but only those which obscure your individuality and ultimate style potential. In return, you will obtain the knowledge and courage to express yourself like you probably never have before. The one problem, I admit, is the book's age. While the basic tenets are timeless, the model's fashions are not, and it would really help if David could cover today's changing fashion scene.I agree--a sequel is badly needed.Where are you David?!
GROUNDBREAKING BEAUTY IMAGE BOOK
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 23 years ago
I read David Kibbe's METAMORPHASIS years ago, and it changed the way I see myself. Prior to reading the book, I had been brainwashed to see myself as less than beautiful in comparison with whatever was the beauty standard of the moment. My image of myself is far, far more positive thanks to the many compliments from people which, in turn, may or may not be due in part to my increased confidence from reading the book. The only possible minus in the book is the way the feminine seems, from my viewpoint, somehow less valuable than the masculine, and the way it is presented that our physical selves mirror our inner selves. I disagree with this, but it could be a misinterpretation on my part. Regardless, David Kibbe comes across as the most encouraging, likable, friendly, and sincere image professional around.More importantly, the image system Kibbe describes, as originating in the old Hollywood system, really works, and I have become adept in secretly determining people's image identities. So much so that, I have decided to run an image consulting website business using the system. I am an actor, and it is an actor's job to market herself or himself as a type, and present herself in the most distinctive way possible. For actors and non-actors alike, METAMORPHASIS is a powerful personal tool.
Kibbe has written "the book" on personal style

I've read this book many times and highly recommend it to anyone who is trying to develop her own special style. It's obvious that Kibbe loves helping people and that he thoroughly appreciates each woman's unique look. His lively writing, genuine passion for his work, and thorough coverage of the topic make this book a treasure, even 20 years after publication. Still, I hope he will consider writing a sequel (one with more pictures, please)-- my copy is wearing out!
If you buy one clothing-style book, make it this one!

I have read several books on the topic of expressing personality or essence through clothing. This is the only one I have found that explains a workable philosophy, with all the pertinent details. At last I can de-junk my closet and know why certain items I like have never felt quite right, and why others always "work". I don't think I will be making many more purchase errors, using these concepts! I wish the author would write an update, although the concept is truly timeless--another strength of the book. Love it!!!
Worth waiting for! A MUST-own!

I'm a former model who didn't have a clue about how I looked, until I read this book. Today, my copy may be falling apart from frequent use, but it's the single most-important book to read and understand when you're trying to look your best. Nobody else explains how important it is, to look like YOU. Forget trying to conceal your "faults," Kibbe shows you how they're really your assets! This book is a unique wake-up to what WORKS.
