Missionary to the Native American Indians in the colonial period, David Brainerd was a great inspirer of Christian missions, influencing many to follow in his footsteps. This description may be from another edition of this product.
My children loved me reading this story of David Brainerd, missionary to the Native Indians. I personally wish the story included a little less dates and place names, and focused more on making an interesting story. It almost read too much like a history book. Nonetheless, it is one of the only young readers versions of the story of this passionate and devoted missionary who gave his life to bring the Gospel to Native villages. It is a good read, and highly recommended to encourage a young reader's faith, and to stir up a young person's heart for missions.
great value

This book is almost small enough to fit in your pocket. Each small page of text is faced by a nice black and white illustration. Pretty remarkable that this (and other entries in this set) are offered at just $1.50 each. I read several of the entries in this set before donating them to our church library, and this book on David Brainerd was the most interesting and well-written of the bunch. Brainerd had an amazing life -- from Yale student, to courting Jonathan Edward's daughter, to Presbyterian rural ministry among Indians in New Jersey, to death at a young age. Interested kids, ages 9-13, will really enjoy this.
