This is the seventh book in the series about the daugters: Emmeline, Tamsen and Arabella. Much has happened in the past 14 years between books. Many of the beloved family has died, some from old age, some from accidents. They can't live forever I guess. The main focus of the book now revolves around a new generation of daughters. There is Liane Wang, Em's great-grandchild; Jo Blaine and Denise Dugal, Arab's grandchildren; and Nora, Nell's adopted granddaughter. The book starts with the girls taking a trip to tour England, thanks to Em's money, with their chaperones, Maggie and Sean Murphy. War breaks out and they have to flee for their lives. Sean gets shot in an atempt to hind from the German soldiers who are hiding out in a farm. Now, still walking to the next town they must also pull Sean in a cart. Due to an infection that Sean gets in his leg, the group gets stuck in Paris until he is better. To pay for their lodging and the expences of Sean's medical treatment all of the girls volunteer as nurses in the hospital. Once Sean is well the whole group is supposed to go stay with Luka, in England, until the war is over. Nora decides to volunteer to go to another hopital and so Jo, Liane and Denise join her. This book deals mainly with the war and the wounded. The girls don't konw what they've gotten themselves into, but they stick it out through even the bloodiest situations. Along the way they find love, but in war time, nothing is guaranteed. This book will hook you in and you'll learn to love these girls as if they were Em, Tamsen and Arab. They may not carry the McLeod name, but they still carry the McLeod spirit, and they can get into just as much trouble as the generation before them. But what would life be without excitement and danger, NOTHING, where this family is concerned. When you've finished your stay in France you can journey back to San Francisco with these new girls in Daughters of the Silver Screen.
