A Very Good Read

The author allowed me a better understanding of how people were mislead. She did it in a thoroughly entertaining way and wasn't preachy. I cared about the characters and was invested in them. The ending stayed with me through several days of thinking back on the story.

See Yourself in German pre-WW II

Wow... Powerful, insightful, and educational all in one. Based on the real life events of the author's family, which makes the book that much more potent. It follows a young woman who loves and believes in Hilter, as she comes to the realization that the Reich is not what it says it is... It shows how brainwashed Germans were and how things progressed, while also showing how underground resistance started. Once again this books shows the importance of understanding the heart of people and how that influences history. How the mind can be twisted into believing that violence and hatred is good, and how to break out of that mindset. 10/10

Fictional/Historical world war ll

Oh my God ... This Book Is Soooo Good ! I wanted it to end to know what happens, but I DIDN'T want it to end, because it was so good!!. I just wanted it to go on and on. There is such a mix of emotions, for the daughter Hetty, Her Father being a high ranking officer in Hilters regime, always having to do, say, and act the perfect German way, never to bring Embarrassment to him or their family. It is a true love story of young FORBIDDEN love, the emotional and absolutely heart wrenching dilemmas she goes through with the love of her life, the young boy Walter, who at one time saved her from drowning, and was a good friend of her brothers.NOW that they are older in their teens, and are EXPECTED to Act, Learn, And Praise Hitler in all his craziness, the brother totally cuts him off as a friend, but Hetty, has always had a crush on him..that turns into full blown love on both their parts, as he always felt deeply about her too. The story takes you through all their heartbreaking problems, from sneaking to see each other, to her trying to protect him from the Gestapo. as you might have surmised by now, Walter is half Jewish, and in Hitler's crazy world, must be eliminated because he's NOT perfect GERMAN BLOOD ! There's SO much more that happens, from the very beginning, the middle, and Its shocking ending its impossible to sum it all up. It's truly a wonderful story, that I know anyone would enjoy reading..except for the parts that have you on the edge of your seat, and the other parts that leave you heart broken for them, with a lump in your throat ! The Author does an EXCELLENT job of bringing you into all the characters life's From her brother, mother and fathers relationship, her friends, even the dear good hearted cook Bertha, who at one point covers for Hetty sneaking out to see Walter, and winds up getting in trouble for it, and eventually let go.You share and feel, all their tradgies, and just the whole family and friend dynamics. Loved the Authors writing and will absolutely read anything she has written.! More than 5 stars in my opinion.!! a book I will keep and probably enjoy re-reading a few years from now.
