What an excellent book, and a refreshing look at dating

I found this book to be an amazing guide towards looking at the art of dating from the perspective of doing right for yourself and going through the proper steps to finding out who is right for you as well as handle people who aren't right for you. I reread Atwood's 2 dating books every few months to get centered to see if I am on the right track with whomever I'm dating. I even ordered a second set of Atwoods books just in case I lose a set. If you really are serious about healthy dating and finding the right woman or man, this is the book for you. If you are looking for a book on how to get laid or deceive someone, look elsewhere. This is a book for serious daters, not playboys and playgirls. There is no other dating book I've read other than Atwoods Date Lines and Be Your Own Dating Service that I'd recommend, and I wholeheartedly recommend both of these books.

Excellent reference

(review updated March 2005) I started reading this book in the Fall of 2002. Following the author's advice, I relaxed and started to have fun with the whole dating process. I went out and met a bunch of people, and started dating more. The tips I learned in this book had a lot to do with my happiness today. My communication is better, I'm more relaxed, and after reading it, I was able to enjoy dating instead of being nervous every time I met someone new. In talking to people, this book gave me a good handle on how to approach difficult topics, which takes a lot of the stress out of getting to know someone. In June 2003, I met an amazing man, and I wasn't nervous or uneasy about getting to know him. Before I knew it, we went on vacation together. We got engaged after only 6 months of dating because we had such incredible communication. We are now married and expecting our first child. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to take charge and enjoy their love life instead of waiting for Ms./Mr. Right to drop out of the sky.

Best book ever written on dating

This book helps you set the stage for not only a successful dating relationship, but a lifelong partnership with somebody. Nina Atwood explains how to have the tough conversations that will get you through the difficult times, leaving the rest of your time open for happy, loving relationships. It is one of the most common-sense, down-to-earth dating books I've ever read.

great common sense stuff

The best thing about this and Nina's other book is that everything is so common sense. There is nothing in either of her books that you might not come up with if you thought about it for a while. What this book does is it puts all that in print. It's not a book written by and for people who are super smooth on dates, it's a book written for people like you and me. I only wish I had gotten this book earlier.

Wow! A author's second book better than the first!

How many times have you read some author's book #2, only to find that it is really a rewrite of book #1, with almost nothing new, and not even as well written.Fortunately, there are exceptions. This book is one of them.As Nina Atwood's second book, it expands on a critical component of her first book: communication. It helps you to understand why communication is absolutely critical in a relationship, where all couples encounter communication speed-bumps, and, most importantly, how to overcome them.Nina Atwood combines her professional training, personal experiences and the experiences of those with whom she has counseled, coached and corresponded. Yes, she provides insight into the problems. And reading about other people offers reassurance that you aren't the only one having problems like that. But, then she goes on to offer concrete, achievable solutions. Some books I've bought and read on topics like this seem so slanted to either the female or male perspective that I either wonder if they understand females enough for me to keep reading or I can't find anything useful for a male reader. This book is particularly balanced; I liked that.If you've bought her first book, you should definitely buy this one. If you haven't bought her first book, you should definitely buy both.I only wish I'd had them twenty years ago.
