Cari McCoy is a best selling author residing in New York City. Growing up in a small town, she could hardly wait until graduation from high school so she could shake the dust of the grimy little town from her feet and begin a new and exciting life as a writer. She had chosen to go to New York not only for the cultural advantages, but also because New York is a city where you can attain a sense of anonymity. In this little town in central Ohio, where she had lived her entire life, everyone knows their neighbor's business and most do not hesitate to make it the topic of conversation at social gatherings if it is juicy enough. Cari had not returned home since she had left 17 years ago, not even for her father's funeral. She now finds herself returning for the funeral of her mother. Staying in the family home, Cari soon begins having odd dreams. A music box she had given to her mother years ago begins playing for no apparent reason. It seems something is leading her to recall things that had happened in her past. Things she cannot remember.
