Reading this book helped give me the strength to handle my own problems. Seeing how Maria overcame a horrific childhood and conquered such obstacles, and still built a good life for herself without bitterness or anger was just what I needed. It's a quick, interesting, inspirational read. It would also be good for discussion at book clubs.
Loved this book!

From the moment I joined Angelina on that long walk home in the moonlight, I was hooked on this book. I found myself entranced by each character and each story along the way. The writer is able to make you feel her journey from that small, dusty village in Portugal, suffering neglect and abuse in the big city of Lisbon as a teenager, and finally finding happiness in Canada. At 216 pages it is a very easy read...perfect for a quiet Sunday.
