INTENSE and ADVENTUROUS

OK so this book starts right where book one ends. GREAT and I am so happy with Rene and Tessa. The end was a little shocking but promising. Another great read and I have already suggested this series to a few of my friends. THanks

Recommended Read!

Rene Morin and Tessa Davenant have led very different lives. While both are vampires, Rene had a human mother and was raised to live as a human. Tessa, on the other hand, grew up in the sheltered Brethren world, secluded from the rest of the world. The two are thrown together to protect Tessa's brother, Brandon Noble (see DARK THIRST for more details), from the Elders of the Brethren. Fleeing across the country, will they give in to the attraction between them or will the darkness claim them both? Wow! Sara Reinke's sequel to DARK THIRST is a stunner! DARK HUNGER picks up right where the first book left off and instantly delves into the dark world of the vampire. I would highly suggest reading DARK THIRST first, however, as the storylines intertwine with an ongoing story arc. One word of caution to readers who want their stories wrapped up neatly: DARK HUNGER leaves with one heck of a cliffhanger! I can only hope that Sara Reinke's next book is coming out soon so I can find out what happens next as the wait is killing me! Rene is a dark, brooding hero. His actions aren't always "right" and he can be cantankerous at times. But as his history unfolds, it is hard not to fall in love with this Alpha male! His tenderness towards Tessa as her secrets are revealed is touching, even endearing. Tessa's inner strength is also admirable and I cannot praise Sara Reinke enough for addressing such tough issues with her characters. Both Rene and Tessa have obstacles in their lives and Ms Reinke addresses these issues with great sensitivity and realism. DARK HUNGER is easily a keeper on my shelves! Sara Reinke adds a much needed touch of darkness to the genre as the story borders on dark fantasy. Fans looking for a story they can truly sink their teeth (pun intended) into will thoroughly enjoy DARK HUNGER. Highly recommended! COURTESY OF CK2S KWIPS AND KRITIQUES

Book with a cliffhanger ending

I won't go into the story line ... Dark Hunger is Book 2 of the Brethen series, and you could get away with starting with this one, but reading book 1, Dark Thirst, helps with a lot of the background. Also Brandon and Lina, are in this one quite a bit and having their background will be helpful. This book picks up where that one left off. This story is Brandon's twin sister Tessa and and Rene, Lina's old partner. I enjoyed this one as much as the first one... it's another unique story (with Brandon being a deaf-mute and Lina being African American and Brandon's white) ... In this book, Rene is an amputee, Tessa was abused by her husband. It's finding out that you can love someone else and they'll love you for who you are. The ending bothered me a bit ... it just didn't seem right, what happened with the one character I think is really what bothered me. Frankly I didn't see it coming, and maybe that's what bothered me. It put a nice twist at the end ... a cliffhanger. And will be a great lead in to the 3rd book in the series (I hope there's a third book in the series)... I really want to get these questions answered.

Vampire Thriller

Gripping, intense, fast pased. I could'nt read it fast enough. Suprising, unexpected ending. I'm looking forward to the sequel. I recommend reading the Dark Thirst first. One of my favorite new paranormal authors.

a fine paranormal romantic thriller

Pregnant vampiress Tessa Davenant has had enough with the abuse and meanness of her spouse Martin five times her age and a zillion times anyone's cruelty. She leaves the Brethren Kentucky estate, a place she never left before, to travel to New Orleans to help her fraternal twin Brandon Noble convicted to die by the family elders. Half-breed vampiric outsider Rene Morin is her escort although his constant criticizing of her is disturbing especially since she is attracted to the former cop. He tries to hide his desires for her behind the façade of assuming she is a wealthy spoiled rich bitch. As they journey to still desolate post Katrina Louisiana, someone follows them with the intent of killing both of them and her brother and his human lover Lina, Rene's ex-police partner. This is a terrific vampire romantic suspense that sort of uses a patriarchal community similar in some ways to the Mennonites as the home base of the Brethren. The story line is action-paced from the onset as the lead couple is attracted tone another, but refuses to act on their desires. Although well written, some of the support characters' activities seem too obfuscate with implications that the reader should peruse the previous tale DARK THIRST for a better understanding. Still this is a fine paranormal romantic thriller due mostly to the prime duet. Harriet Klausner
