70 one page gems to supercharge your life

Reviewed by Cindy Lynn Jacobs for Reader Reviews (10/06) Author John Mason's book "Dare to Be" is divided into 70 questions designed specifically for readers with busy lifestyles who want to supercharge their lives. Mason draws from a huge pool of resources to present brief and powerful motivating answers to these questions. Each one-page reflection is selected carefully and composed of quotes and truths to impact even the greatest pessimist. Mason encourages individuals, to "Read this book when you're alone, dreaming of what God has for you." In just three to four paragraphs, Mason manages to challenge his readers to take positive steps to a better life. For example, "Is fear causing you to run from something that isn't after you?" If so, Mason suggests readers follow Dr. Rob Gilbert's advice: "It's all right to have butterflies in your stomach. Just get them to fly in formation." Mason also notes that "Fear can keep you from going where you could have won. Don't let your fears steal from you and prevent you from pursuing your dream." Another example is, "Do you start your day in neutral?" According to Mason, "Too many people lose an hour in the morning, and then spend the rest of the day trying to recapture it. Instead, start your day on the offensive." He quotes John Burroughs as saying "The lesson which life repeats and constantly reinforces is, `Look under foot.' You are always nearer than you think ... The great opportunity is where you are. Do not despise your own place and hour." Several years ago I purchased Mason's book "An Enemy Called Average." This book sits on my desk at work as a constant encouragement and motivation. "Dare to Be" will also be added to my desktop library as a reference to remind me to always move forward and that, with God's help, I can achieve my dreams. I recommend you buy two--one for yourself and one for a friend.
