Pamela Britton's DANGEROUS CURVES, is an amazing story! She not only has characters that are multi-leveled, but 'real'. She knows her NASCAR and makes you want to come back for more. DANGEROUS CURVES is non-stop fabulous! CeCe Blackwell is a no-nonsence FBI agent who left her small town to pursue a career in law enforcement. But she gets a case that she can't shake working for Blain Sanders, someone she tried to forget way back when. He is a Cup car owner who lost a dear friend to what doesn't look like an accident and he needs CeCe to help him figure it out. This is a page turner, and you won't be able to put it down!

I'll admit that I'd never heard of this author until Claire B Lange mentioned the author's name on NASCAR XM. I love to read and I love NASCAR and so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did because this delivered so much of what I'd hoped to find. I wanted a good story and I got that within the pages of this book. I also wanted authentic NASCAR action and I got that in spades too. It's obvious this author knows her NASCAR and all i can say is brava! I'll be first in line to buy In The Groove when it comes out in January.

Pamela Britton is mostly known for her Regency era Historical Romances. So I was curious how she made the jump into Contemporary Romance with a NASCAR theme. I must say Britton is hitting her stride here, her voice more fluid as a Contemporary writer. She's obviously done her racing homework, and strongly portrays the NASCAR world. It's a nifty drama that leaves me hoping Britton does more contemporaries. Cece Blackwell is a FBI Agent. She's in the middle of a case ready to break open when her boss yanks her from that assignment and pushes her into a racecar circuit case. She has to work undercover, posing as a NASCAR groupie, while trying to get to the bottom of a racecar driver's death. She threatens to quit her job because of it, but her boss is determined to keep her on the case since she is the only one with enough knowledge to be believable in the high-powered, high-states world. Exacerbating the upset is the fact her high school crush, Blain Sanders heads one of the racecar teams. Sanders' NASCAR team employed the man who died. When she confronts Blain, he says he requested she run the investigation. He knows she is good with the cars, the circuit and can blend in well, so will cause minimum fuss while the investigation runs its course. Blain would accept the death of the other driver was an accident, but for the threatening letters, which came just before the man died. Cece must race to find a killer, while the throttle on her attraction to Blain is thrown wide open. The fast pace of the writing matches the racing theme, and the hero and heroine are deliciously attractive, drawing you in to the high-profile world of stockcar racing. Britton makes the transition from historical romance writer to contemporary romance writer with ease. It's pedal to the metal fun.
fast-paced police procedural romance

FBI Agent Cece Blackwell threatens to quit because her boss Bob takes her off the Mantos explosives case that she has worked undercover as a loose bimbo for weeks to handle a driver's death amongst the NASCAR racing set. Bob says she is the only one he has with racing car experience. Part of her ire comes from the fact that her high school nemesis and (unrequited crush) Blain Sanders heads the Sanders NASCAR team whose employee died. To her shock, Blain admits he asked for her to run the investigation because their mutual mentor insists she is the best and because of her experience with racing cars; she gloats that she beat him back in school. Blain explains that it appears on the surface Randy, his team's driver, died in an accident except for the fact he received threatening letters. Reluctantly she accepts the case. Rather quickly Blain and Cecilia (as he calls her) struggle with an attraction for one another, but unlike high school she is hesitant to act on her feelings for fear of rejection and the danger of her work. As the threats rise and the killer becomes even bolder, the duo works together to uncover the murderer while falling in love. DANGEROUS CURVES is a fast-paced police procedural romance that stars two wonderful protagonists whose romance has a bumpy detoured path. The investigation is cleverly handled and shares lead theme with the romance and the insightful look at a racing car team. Cece is handled brilliantly throughout but especially when she suffers a traumatic injury while Blain is more of a surprise as he seems so confident and sure of himself yet (read the book). Pamela Britton provides her audience with an exciting spin. Harriet Klausner

I picked this up in the bookstore...was actually looking for her other books (Seduced/Tempted/Scandal) and was more than pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the story, the dialog, and the realistic emotions pulling back and forth between Cece and Blain.... i even cried at one point...i was so engrossed on the train i didn't realize we had reached the station... if you liked the Bonner series from Susan Elizabeth Philips or some of the hockey series from Deirdre Martin you'll love this book about LOVE around the track... wish i knew more racing metaphors!!
