I first bought this book in 1983 when I was in high school. I was going to go on an exchange program in France the following summer, and wanted to improve my pronunciation. This book taught me everything! Even though I didn't have the audio program, all of the charts, diagrams, explanations and exercises really helped me. My teacher noticed the improvement in my pronunciation. When I arrived in France, my host family immediately complimented me on my accent. I majored in French in college, and one of the required courses was phonetics. Since I had already learned so much from this book, the course was an easy "A". I am now a high school French teacher and am giving my top students accent training. I am using this book to improve their accent. The best chapter is the one on the "R". It comes very early in the book, because it is the most important sound to master if you wish to achieve a good French accent. Other books have very limited coverage on the "R". Not only is the "R" covered very extensively, all of the important aspects of French pronunciation are as well. I have other books on French pronunciation, but this book is the only one you need. Even though the book is very expensive (unless you get it used), it is well worth the price. The accent I have now is priceless. Now I'm able to pass on my knowledge to my students, and hearing their progress is also priceless.
