No Mitford collection is complete without the Violet books Violet Comes to Stay is the first in a series of storybooks inspired by Cynthia Coppersmith, Father Timas wife from Jan Karonas bestselling Mitford Years series. Jan Karonas legions of fans will love this timeless story about the endearing white kitten named Violet, charmingly written by Melanie Cecka and beautifully illustrated by Caldecott Medal-winning artist Emily Arnold McCully. Karon searched for three years to find a storytelling voice and art style authentic to Cynthia Coppersmith. She was personally involved in every step of the creation of this book. In Violet Comes to Stay, Violetas search for the perfect home leads her to a plant nursery, a bakery, and finally a bookstoreathe one place where the gentle cat isnat expected to be a mouse hunter.
The feline Violet of the Mitford series comes to life in this wonderful children's book. It's illustrations are so wonderful. Maybe others of my generation will rejoice in the fond memories which the water colors then highlighted with pin and ink provide from elementary school reading books. The story is gripping one of a cat that is not so into being like the rest of his siblings, not into mice catching. But God has a special place planned out. Well done story with great applications for the young reader to be exposed to. Could become classic? For you and your children, if not all of God's kids! Enjoy!

I purchased this book for my grand-daughter, and we both found it delightful. My grand-daughter loves kittens, and Violet is very entertaining. The artwork is outstanding and we enjoyed that as much as the story.

This is a delightful children's book, with a subtle moral. It could only be written and illustrated by one who loves cats.
Another Mitford Gem!

And so Mitford continues to bless us, this time with fantasy becoming reality, as the first of Cynthia Coppersmith's books comes to life. This tender tale of Violet's earliest days may be aimed at the little tykes, but the message that "God has a plan for each of us," which is intoned by way of the subtle repetition throughout the story, is meant for all ages. If anything, Cecka and McCully have exceeded everything I had envisioned whilst wiling away pleasant hours in Cynthia Coppersmith's mythical studio, and one could truly believe this book came from her pen and brush, were not these two talented ladies' names on the cover. Bravo for all involved in the production of what is now one of my very favorite children's books! It is my sincere hope that we will be blessed with many more from this series.
