I actually read this book 1st (it's the 2nd book in a 2-part series). And I really liked it! I'm currently working my way through books by New Mexico authors, and this has been my favorite so far. It was a little difficult to understand what was going on at first, but that's because I'd unknowingly skipped the introduction book (so definitely read in order).
Even though this series was written awhile ago, it's an interesting parallel to the worldwide pandemic we've been experiencing. So there's that added layer of the lines blurring a bit between fact & fiction. The characters and dystopian landscape have the right amount of depth, as seen through the eyes of a small band of survivors. I even bought a second copy and donated it to the local library here in New Mexico...
