A favorite book of mine!

This book is wonderful. I have TONS of crochet books but the patterns in this one are actually do-able and practical. I have made the Cozy Cream afghan several times and it's gorgeous! I do have to tell you it is written European style which means she says 6ch instead of chain 6. It's very easy to figure out what she is saying though. Everything else is pretty normal. I haven't found any mistakes in this pattern yet so that's always a good thing. I highly recommend this book for even beginners once they master chain, sc, dc, and triple crochet. Once you have this down,,,you are ready for this book! I love it! Juliebeth7 :)

Cool, classy and cute.

This is a wonderful book from Readers Digest that is chock full of wonderful patterns (52 in all) that are very modern in appearance -- quite stylish without being so desperately "artsy" that you could never really use it. (You won't find any multi-colored, fuzzy necklaces crocheted with eyelash yarn and a set of extention cords.) Because of the great variety, this book would make a great gift for a crafty person in your circle. The title, Crochet in No Time, says it all about the speed in which the projects can be completed. (Add extra time if you're an over-scheduled ordinary work/family/school/commuter person like I am.

My favorite!

This is my favorite crochet book so far. Usually I'm lucky if I find one project per book that I want to make. But I've made several from this one already and have plans for at least 5 or 6 more! When will I find the time? I made the really cute pink wrap sweater for my little granddaughter and the cute little cap to match. She loves it! What a little clothes horse at two. My only complaint is that the directions are written in more of a "British" style and it took me a few restarts to get the hang of it. Actually I adjusted all the turns to chain and turn - what I'm used to. Lake another reviewer, I have had issues with the yarn selections as well. I even ordered some from Ebay so my project would look just like the picture. But it's worth it because the projects are great!

Very Good Book

I like this book a lot. I think it would make a good gift for most crocheters because it has a wide range of patterns. I have not made anything from the book yet, so I can't say how accurate the instructions are, otherwise I would give it 5 stars. For each pattern there is an estimate of the time required to make it, a description and photo of the yarn used, the finished dimensions of the item, and tips for completing it and in some cases for modifying it. Almost all of the items are shown in large photos that show a lot of detail. There are no stitch diagrams or schematics. The items are nice clean designs, modern without being funky, and they are fresh. There are 9 pages of crochet basics and drawings of how to do the stitches. There are 51 patterns, a couple of which have variations included in the instructions. Hook sizes range from steel #12 to P. Recommended yarns include Debbie Bliss, Rowan, Sirdar, Elle and Noro brands, but for quite a few of the patterns the type and size of yarn is described with no specific yarn named. In women's accessories there are 5 scarfs, 2 wraps, 5 hats, 2 pair of gloves (one with a fingerless variation), 2 bags, a belt made of leather and beads, a lace collar, and 3 pieces of jewelry. In women's clothing, there are 2 coats, the cover lace jacket, 3 pretty openwork tops made in fine thread, a cardigan, and 2 pullovers. For some items, sizes are limited to 32-38, but others go up to 44 or 46. Items for babies and children include a lacy christening coat and bonnet, several booties and shoes, a cardigan, a jacket, a hooded coat, several hats, a blanket, a shawl to wrap baby in, and a stuffed elephant and zebra. Home decor includes a paisley motif throw that is very nice-looking and original, a cream-colored afghan of classic squares, a crocheted round pillow, an Irish lace pillow cover, and an edging for a cloth. The only negatives I see are the lack of women's sizes above 46, and the fact that a couple of the lacy items do not have really clear photos so I would like to see stitch diagrams for these. Overall, I highly recommend this book if you are looking for new crochet patterns.

Fantastic Book!

Of all the crochet books I own, this one is definitely my favorite. It's one of the few crochet books I own or have seen where I like nearly every pattern in the book. The projects are beautiful, original, and there are patterns for every skill level. I love the cute line drawings of each design that accompany the photos. My only complaints would be that nearly every pattern calls for pricey yarn shop type yarns (although other yarns can be substituted) and that among the babies and children's patterns, none are for older (ages 6+) kids. Then again, children in that age group are neglected by crochet designers to begin with anyway. Overall though, I love this book, and am glad I bought it.
