Great Book for Teaching

This book is very helpful for teaching children to crochet (or anyone, for that matter). The projects are easy and fun, and the diagrams are very helpful. It even comes with a hook, yarn and a yarn needle, so you will be ready to go!

Attractive and do-able crochet for pre-teens

All the projects in the book would appeal to the pre-teens I work with in fourth and fifth grades--the beanie, cloche hat, scarf, choker, wristwarmers, bag, and cool containers. I particularly liked the hats, the chokers, and the cool containers. The cool containers are small bowls or tall cylinders with optional beaded lids, about the size that you would use on your bureau top to hold hair elastics, pins, or maybe combs or glasses. They were quite attractive and would delight many a pre-teen girl or boy. The chokers were pretty because they made optimal use of color, stitch patterns, and even embellishment with a multi-color flower. I was a little confused by the picture under "Striped Beanie," because it looked like a cloche hat to me, and didn't seem to match the instructions underneath it. Had space permitted, it would have been nice to have a picture of the ruffled scarf on the pages with the instructions for scarves, and another photo of the star embellishment. All in all, though, it was great to see a beginner crochet book for pre-teens which trusted the teens to learn the half double and double crochet stitches, in addition to the single crochet stitch! This is the only book I've seen which includes those stitches, which I'm sure the kids could handle. Very nice projects, and cute pre-teen models--hip, without looking older than they really are. It's too bad that this book hasn't gotten wider circulation. It deserves more attention.
