I'll be honest-- I didn't have high hopes for this book. When I ordered it I didn't realize it was by the same author as "Redeeming Gabriel," a book I could not get into and didn't read beyond the first 1/4 of the book. Turns out it was not only the same author but the same series!!!! I'm so happy I didn't feel 5.50 was worth returning for a refund as I enjoyed this book quite thoroughly. I tend to lean away from books with medicine as a central theme-- especially those with women pioneering into the field (not that I'm opposed to women in medicine... quite the contrary--all my doctors are female!) Since I don't share those interests I find myself unable to relate to the leading lady. HOWEVER, this book was so well-done, characters so well developed, that I could not help but to be entranced by the story. I cheered for Abigail and felt my heart break for her. I felt respect and pain for Braddock as his story unfolded. There were sideplots and twists to the story that made this book hard to put down. If you are after a book with a well thought out love story threaded with mystery and adversity, pick up this book. The characters are unforgettable with a depth unthinkable for a book this this short length. So pleased am I with Elizabeth White and the story she wove that as soon as I can find my copy of Redeeming Gabriel, I am going to pick it back up and start it from the beginning. Well done-- I look forward to more!
More than just a light romance

Elizabeth White is a very talented author whose novels never fail to inspire me. From the first sentence of Crescent City Courtship, I was pulled into the story and held there until its exciting conclusion. Great characters, great setting, great conflict, and a lovely romance. Ms. White has done her historical research well, and she dispenses it casually so as not to weigh down the story. I will keep reading her books!
