Just What I Was Looking For

I wanted a basic how-to book of instructions to make foundation, lipstick, eye liner, mascara, shadow, and blusher. Creative Face is exactly that. The Table of Contents includes Equipment, Ingredients, Pigments and Fun Additions, Containers and Storage, Applicators, Safety Guidelines, Eyes, Lips, Face Base, Party Time, Skin Preparation, Troubleshooting, Glossary, and a short list suppliers (I've found more searching on-line). The book is easy to read with brief descriptions of ingredients and their purposes and with colorful photographs. There are instructions for glosses and shimmery or matte lipstick colors in pinks, reds, berry, russet and for "Lips to Shock," such as Electric Blue, Laser Orange or Ghoulish Green. There are recipes for eye liner, kohl, shadows and blusher; for glitter body and hair gels; for foundation; and for lip balms, which are quick and easy and do a nice job protecting and moisturizing. In the section on Face Base, you'll find cream or powder foundation and cream concealer in five blends: Peaches and Cream, Olive, Dark, Ivory Pale, and Bronzing. It might take some experimentation to closely match your skin tone--I haven't gotten that far yet--but I enjoy playing with and mixing colors so don't consider that a problem. For those who prefer, pre-mixed iron oxides (coloring powders) can be bought on-line in a few basic skin tone tints to save some time and possibly frustration. FYI, this is not a kitchen cosmetics book. It doesn't use things like fruit, yogurt, herbs that many natural body care books do. This book is about making face make-up with color. Most recipes do require preservatives so they'll last more than three days and to avoid contamination with molds, yeasts and bacteria. To summarize: I like this book. It contained the information I sought and I'm pleased with it.

Excellent book - perfect for beginners to experienced home-makeup chemists

This is a beautifully presented book, with gorgeous photo images. The recipes are easy to use, the ingredients mostly easy to find and natural. I would have appreciated just a little more information on color blending, but I plan to do my own experimenting anyway. Excellent job. Highly recommended.
